Are You Ready For Some Football? Marauders Take the Field Tonight to Start Season

Kickoff is at 6 p.m. at Harris Field. Come early and have a hot dog.

It may be Thursday Night Light instead of Friday – the season opener was moved up a day due to tomorrow's start of the Jewish high holy day of Yom Kippur – but the excitement will be just as big as the Belmont High School Football Marauders take on Stoneham High School at Harris Field tonight, Sept. 12.

In addition, the 100-member (that's right, 100!) Belmont High School Marching Band will perform at half-time.

Kick off will take place at 6 p.m.

Belmont Head Coach Kevin Gildea will lead a young team out on the gridiron against Stoneham that is seeing a resurgence to its program. Last year, the Spartans won their first seven games before dropping their final four. They return 1,000 yard running back Darius McPherson who scored 11 rushing TDs last year.

Marauder freshman Cal Christofori will start as quarterback with sophomore Max Jones – who came out of no where to be Belmont's star player in last year's Thanksgiving game – will be in the backfield. Christofori will have sophomore Rob Aiello and senior captain Chris Kelly to throw at.

One of the leader on defense will be senior linebacker Barrett Lyons who brings championship credentials from being a starter on this year's Belmont state Rugby champions.

As always, the snack bar will be operated by Parents of Music Students where you can ruin your dinner with pizza and hot dogs.
