Boys' Golf: Belmont Cards a Historic Third in State Tournament

Michael Pergamo placed tied for fifth in the individual competition held in Sutton.

Belmont High School Boys' Golf finished a historic 2013 season with a flourish as the six-member team tied for second in the MIAA Division 2 State tournament held Monday, Oct. 28 at Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton.

Head Coach Jeff Shea's team's combined 315 score matched the total of Hingham High School yet the Marauders were placed third after a tie breaker rule was applied. Both teams trailed pre-tourney favorites Concord Carlisle Regional High School which won going away with a score of 303.

Despite being relegated down a spot, the third place is Belmont's best ever finish in the state tournament.

Belmont was paced by Michael Pergamo who carded a 77 which placed him tied for fifth in the individual competition which was won by George May of Masconomet with a 73.

Belmont's team scored was helped when Andrew Lilly and Bobby Malcolm finished with 79 followed by Kole Kelly with a 80. Lilly finished tied for seventh in the individual tournament.

Andrew Mosca (88) and Jack Rushe (90) finished off Belmont's scoring blitz.

The third place at states ends a historic fall for the team, with the team finishing with a one-loss regular season as Middlesex League champions then claiming third in the sectionals.
