Former Malden High Football Player Starting in Super Bowl

He'll be tasked with protecting Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.

When you’re watching the Super Bowl this Sunday, keep an eye out for the Seattle Seahawks starting right tackle Breno Giacomini.

The mammoth Giacomini played football at Malden High School, where he graduated from in 2004.

Believe it or not, the now 6-foot-7, 318-pound Giacomini played quarterback his freshman year at Malden. He then played linebacker, before deciding to focus solely on basketball his junior year.

Giacomini, 28, played college football at Louisville, was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 5th Round in 2008 and was acquired by the Seahawks in 2010.

Now quarterback Russell Wilson’s protector, Giacomini will be tasked with blocking the Denver Broncos’ pass rush Sunday and creating holes for running back Marshawn Lynch.

If you’re looking for Malden’s native son on Sunday, he’ll be wearing No. 68 and be on the right end of the Seahawks’ offensive line (to Russell Wilson’s right that is).

Super Bowl XLVIII, between the Seahawks and Broncos, kicks off from Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J., at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2. The game will be televised on Fox.
