Golf: Belmont High Boys' Take Third in Sectional, Heading for State Championship

Belmont golfers Andrew Lilley and Michael Pergamo qualified for the state individual championship.

The best year in Belmont High School Boys' Golf history just got better.

A week after winning their first outright Middlesex League championship, the six-man team place third in the North Division 2 sectionals played in North Reading on Monday morning, Oct. 21, securing a place in the state championship next Monday.

In addition, two Belmont golfers, Andrew Lilley and Michael Pergamo, qualified for the state individual championship.

At yesterday's sectionals played at Hillview Golf Course, Belmont's six finished third with a combined score of 302, behind powerhouse Concord Carlisle Regional High School with a 290 and two strokes behind North Andover High.

Lilley led Belmont by carting a 72; Pergamo, 75, Kole Kelly, 77; Bobby Malcolm, 78;
Jack Rushe, 89 and Andrew Mosca, 90.

Lilley finished tied for third behind Concord Carlisle's Jack Kingman, who was first with a 70 and his teammate, Tianlin Zhang, with a 71. Lilley and Pergamo finished in the top 15 golfers with Kelly missing the individual championship by a single stroke.

While Belmont is sending two golfers to the individual championships, each of the six members of the Concord Carlisle team qualified.

The state championships will take place on Monday, Oct. 28, at the Blackstone National Golf Course in Sutton.
