Honoring Fall's Best at Athletic Awards Night
Golf and Boys' Soccer will hang banners but most important result was the competition and teammates.
It's been a great fall season for Belmont High School sports; Winning records, league championships, tournament appearances and still the chance for state titles. The school is ranked 10th of 39 schools throughout Eastern Massachusetts Division 2 by the Boston Globe with the teams winning at a combined 58 percent.
But for both Jim Davis, the district's athletic director and Belmont High School Principal Dr. Dan Richards who spoke at the Fall Athletic Awards Night on Wednesday, Nov. 13, the essence of the season that will officially close on Thanksgiving Day with the annual football game versus Watertown High School, the season was about every student athlete – from league all-stars to freshmen reserves – being part of a team in which friendships are established, being competitive through teamwork and learning from the victories and defeats they all experienced, said Davis at the ceremony in the auditorium at Belmont High School.
And as the student athletes competed, "you did so with Marauder pride everywhere I attended," said Richards.

"We celebrate individuals, but it's a team effort that made us winners," said Volleyball Head Coach Jen Couture.
Golf Head Coach Shea joked that his team must have done something special in the season to deserve being given the final presentation slot of the night rather then its customary lead-off position each fall.

In fact, Shea's team of steady seniors and a boat load of freshmen not only finished the season 13-1, it won the Middlesex League title outright, was victorious in the annual Middlesex League "shootout" (and had the trophy to prove it), and finished third in both the North sectionals and the Div. 2 State Championships.
Golf along with the Boys' Soccer team (co-champions of the Middlesex League's Liberty Division), will be hanging banners on the walls of Wenner Field House.
In addition to the banner, Boys' Soccer's Andrew Strawbridge was named the Middlesex League MVP and an Eastern All-Star.
Sportsmanship and coaches awards were presented in each of the ten fall sports as were the presentation of varsity jackets to first-time letter winners by the President of the Belmont Boosters Club, Leigh McLaughlin Lynch, whose organization pays for the jackets.
In addition, Middlesex League all-stars were acknowledged; they included Lizzie Frick and Lucia Guzilkowski in Girls' Soccer, Lewis Silletto and Tim Siracusa in Boys' Cross Country, Leah Brams in Girls' Cross Country, Annie Hung in Volleyball, Suzanne Noone and Anne-Marie Habelow in Field Hockey, Jessica Blake-West, Emily Quinn, Anastasia Pulak, Jiaqi Li, Cynthia Kelsey, Haruka Uchida, Maya Nagashima and Sarah Osborn in Girls' Swimming, Peter Berens, Sam Kerans, Michael Chertkov, Ben Lazanby and Strawbridge in Boys' Soccer and Kole Kelly, Andrew Lilley and Michael Pergamo in Boys' Golf.
