Never Too Young for Hockey: Under-10 Girls in Finals

Girls going for the win at the inaugural Pink of the Rink tournament in Arlington.

Oh, the Under 10 (players under 10 years old) Girls Team from the Belmont Youth Hockey Association may look cute and sweet, but don't let that fool you. With rough-and-tumble names like Molly, Meaghan and Maggie, they are a group of hard-nosed hockey players and want nothing more than to be champions.

And they will have that chance tonight, Feb. 23, at the inaugural Pink of the Rink Hockey Tournament in Arlington as the team meets the Lynnfield Ice Cats – a team they have defeated earlier in the tournament – at 6:30 p.m at the Ed Burns Arena.

Coached by Pete Noone, the 18 youngsters have been victorious over Arlington, 3-2, and Lynnfield, 3-1, to get into the finals.

And these girls have connections with the successful Belmont High School Girls' Hockey team that won 14 games and will be a favorite in the Division 2 state championships. One of the U-10 players is Emma O'Donovan, sister of senior forward Erin, and the team came out to cheer for the High School team at their game this past Saturday in Lexington.

The U10 team is made up of:

2 Meaghan Noone 21 Kara Rowan 22 Kyra Christofori 27 Jenna Crowley 36 Molly Dacy  37 Roxie Kelleher-Durkop 38 Amanda Hanley 39 Patricia Halliday 40 Kristina Welch 43 Kara Goulding 45 Emma O'Donovan 46 Lydia Brown 49 Maggie O'Connor  52 Del Bonnin 53 Catherine Cunningham 54 Reed Meier 58 Ellie Carson 59 Courtney Raynor

We'll let you know how they do.
