Sports: Boys' Golf Win Middlesex League Title, First Since 1997

First outright championship for Belmont Golf.

Belmont Public School's Athletic Director Jim Davis said he had look on the walls of banners at the Wenner Field House to discover if Belmont High School Golf had ever won a league championship. Davis didn't know the answer off the top of his head because it happened so long ago. (The answer is 1997 when Belmont shared the title with two other high schools)

But after yesterday, Davis won't have to worry about remembering the second championship for Belmont Golf as he was witness to the Marauders led by Belmont Head Coach Jeff Shea winning its first outright championship by easily defeating Arlington High School on Thursday afternoon, Oct. 17, at Belmont Country Club.

The Marauders – #1 Andrew Lilley, #2 Kole Kelly, #3 Mike Pergamo, #5 Jack Rushe, #6 Andrew Mosca along with Kevin Tsang and Andrew Preston – finished the season at 11-1 to edge out Reading and Lexington for the right to raise its own banner. Along with winning the league, the team also won the Middlesex League Shootout at Stoneham in September by one stroke over Reading High.

Next up for Belmont will be the MIAA 2013 Boys' Fall Golf North Division 2 Sectional on Monday, Oct. 21 at 9 a.m. at the Hillview Golf Course in North Reading.
