Middle School Summer Reading List

For incoming sixth, seventh and eighth graders.

The summer reading list are a joint project of the Belmont Schools and the Belmont Public Library. They are designed to encourage students in Belmont to make reading a habit, raising both their interest and abilities in reading. The following is a list of suggested books.

Incoming sixth graders are expected to read three books over the summer and to keep a list of the titles. The choice of reading material is up to you and your parents.

See the attached list in the 6thgradeSummerReading2012 pdf file

Entering seventh graders are to read "City of Ember," by Jeanne DuPrau. Entering eighth graders are to read "The Giver," by Lois Lowry. Each text will be used in the fall to begin the school year; students may want to purchase their own copy to mark up. Seventh and eighth graders should also read one additional book from the list below. (Students may use the audiotape of a book to enhance their understanding.)
