Heat Advisory Issued for Monday in Belmont

Temps above 90 degrees F with high humidity through Thursday.

The National Weather Service in Taunton issued a heat advisory from noon until 8 p.m. for most of Eastern Massachusetts at 12:21 a.m. today, Monday, July 15.

The Service is forecasting temperatures in the low 90s F through Thursday in Belmont, with heat index values near 100 degrees. Overnight lows in the mid-70s won't provide much relief. 

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a situation in which heat illness are possible, said the NWS.

Among the heat wave advise from the NWS include: 

• Avoid prolonged work in the sun or in poorly ventilated areas. Reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends schedule frequent rest breaks in the shade and air conditioned environs.

• Drink plenty of fluids.

• Stay in an air-conditioned environment.

• Stay out of the sun.

• Check in on relatives and neighbors. 

• Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside, when possible.

• Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, wear light weight and loose-fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water to reduce the risk of during outdoor work. 

• Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Remember heat stroke is an emergency so please call 9-1-1.
