Belmont Fire Provides Komen 3-Day a New Pit Stop

Change in scheduled Belmont stop on the third day proves to be a huge success.

The Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure had a new pit stop in Belmont this year, hosted by the .

In past years, the Walk has used the on White Street. Last year, and his wife Karen participated in the walk in memory of his mother, Jane Davison, who died from breast cancer in 1981.

While participating on day three, which takes a route through Belmont to Cambridge on the way to Boston, the Davisons noticed that the Butler was out of the way, and made the route a little awkward. It seemed to make much more sense to have the pit stop at fire headquarters on Trapelo Road, as the route went right past it. After some communication with the Walk organizers, the change was made.

The pit stop crew was prompt, efficient and when they left it looked like they hadn’t even been there. Many walkers commented on what a difference the change in the route made, and the crew said it was the best site they had for the entire fundraiser.

The Belmont Fire Department is looking forward to working with the 3-Day again next year to help make the 3-Day a successful event.
