Nearly 300 residents – from an 80-year-old with a powered hand tools to children reducing a mountain of mulch one shovel full at a time – descended on the Winn Brook Elementary School's parking lot this morning, Monday, Oct. 14 at 8 a.m. for the final push to complete the new Joey's Park.
The opening of the new playground – replacing the original 24-year-old wooden structure – is scheduled for 4 p.m. with a town-wide celebration/party.
This morning, kids helped as best they could to fill mulch into wheel-barrows as adults where hurrying to secure planks and equipment throughout the structure.
"This is beyond exciting. We will have this finished by 4 p.m.," said Ellen Schreiber, co-chair of Friends of Joey's Park, describing today's events. See Schreiber on Vine.com discussing her thoughts in six seconds.
