Art Teachers 'Off The Clock,' You In the Warsaw Ghetto and Coffeehouse's New Season

Highlights of the coming week in Belmont.

The Belmont Gallery of Art - located on the third floor of the Homer Municipal Building (in the Town Hall Complex in Belmont Center) - will host an artists reception on Friday, Sept. 20 at 6 p.m. for an exhibit of works created by Belmont public school art teachers called Off the Clock.  You already know what great teachers these individuals are, and this exhibit will allow you see that they are all truly outstanding artists as well.

The new season of the Second Friday Coffeehouse at First Chuch Belmont, 404 Concord Ave. gets underway this Friday, Sept. 20, with former Church Youth Assistant Dan Glen featuring songs from his new CD and The BlueRockers jamming on blues, shuffles and some of their favorite classic tunes.

Geoffrey Brahmer, M.Div. returns to the Beech Street Center, 266 Beech St., on Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 1:15 p.m. with his historic presentation, "Return to the Warsaw Ghetto," where he chronicles the formation of the Ghetto, life in it, deportations from it, and the Jewish uprisings against it. Brahmer, as a theologian, helps us ask existential questions like “Would I have survived in the Ghetto, and if yes, at what cost? 

Final two Belmont High School teams have their home openers this week: Boys' and Girls' Cross Country will be motoring around Clay Pit Pond against the always tough Reading Rockets on Tuesday, Sept. 17 beginning at 3:30 p.m. and Girls' Swimming will be out to defend last year's co-Middlesex League championship taking the plunge vs Woburn at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18. And it's football under the Friday night lights as Belmont takes on Bedford at 6 p.m. on, of course, Friday, Sept. 20.
