Essential Monday: What's Happin' at the Clark House, Ice Cream for Teens and 'Ball!'

What's happin' this week? At least know the essentials.

Things are picking up in Belmont, especially around the schools as a great number of extra curriculum activities – sports and music – are starting a few weeks before the official beginning of the school year in September. And residents will get a few answers about the Clark House and the Special Town Meeting this fall - yes, it will be a reality.

Here are a few essential events coming up this week:

• The town will get word on the preservation options of the circa 1760 Thomas Clark House – if you have to ask, you haven't been paying attention – at a special meeting of the Belmont Historic District Commission on Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. at Belmont Town Hall.

• Teens will have a chance to soften the blow of a new school year just around the corner with a Teen Ice Cream Party on Wednesday, Aug. 21 from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Belmont Public Library.

• There will be magic in the air at Belmont-Watertown United Methodist Church at 421 Common St. on Wednesday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. as the church presents a show on its lawn featuring Belmont’s own Mike Bent and his “Abrakidabra Magic Show” along with singer/banjo player Paul Sedgwick. Bring the kids!

• Watch out for footballs, soccer balls and especially field hockey balls as Belmont High fall athletes will officially begin their preseason training on Thursday, Aug. 22.
