Primary, Serving Belmont, Coward at Town Hall, Happy Birthday Beech

Events happening this week in Belmont.

Tuesday, Oct. 15 is election day in Belmont and the other communities in the 5th Congressional district as the town's hold special party primary elections to decide who will run in the general election on Nov. 5 to fill the seat vacated by former US Rep. and now US Sen. Ed Markey

Monday, Oct. 14 beginning at 8 a.m. is Belmont Serves, the day of community service which this year will be connected with the final day of Joey's Park community build

• The Belmont Dramatic Club, the second oldest community theater company in the country, presents Noel Coward's "Waiting in the Wings," the classic comedy set in an English retirement home for actresses. The play focuses on a feud between two former stage stars who once both loved the same man. Performances, in the Town Hall auditorium, are Friday, Oct. 18 at 8 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 19: 8 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 26: 8 p.m.; and Sunday, Oct. 27: 3 p.m. Tickets: $18 non-member adults, $15 youths under 18 and $15 groups (10+/one performance)

• On Friday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m., the Second Friday Coffeehouse of the First Church in Belmont, Unitarian-Universalist, 404 Concord Ave., will feature Polly & Anand, a folk duo based in Pioneer Valley. Their music is characterized by sweet, soft harmonies, original, soulful lyrics, deceptively simple arrangements, and beautifully blended voices. Opening the night is Bridget Curzi, gifted vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. Bridget teaches music as well as composes and performs her own songs in the Boston area.

Happy Birthday, Beech Street Center. On Friday, Oct. 18 at 1:15 p.m. all residents are invited to help celebrate the fourth anniversary of the opening of the Center. Come dance or simply listen to Bo Winiker and his orchestra and partake of some delicious refreshments. This is a free event.

In sports, Girls' soccer are playing a 10 a.m. match with Reading on Monday, Oct. 14; Girls' Swimming at 4 p.m. vs. Wakefield and Field Hockey against Arlington on Wednesday, Oct 16; Boys' Golf at 3 p.m. at Belmont Country Club with Boys' Soccer at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 17 and football vs Reading at 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 18.
