Final Performances of 'King Stag', 'Mikado', Choral Singing at Powers, Spanish Shorts

What's happening this weekend in Belmont.

The final curtain falls for the Belmont High School Performing Arts Company's  production of Carlo Gozzi's Commedia Dell’Arte masterpiece "The King Stag." This tale of love, magic, animal puppetry and a roaming bear closes Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. in the Belmont High School auditorium. The final two performances of The First Church in Belmont, Universal Unitarian production of Gilbert and Sullivan's "The Mikado" takes place on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 10, at 3 p.m. Tickets are $12; Telephone orders can be obtained at 617-484-2149.

Belmont World Film is co-presenting a selection of short films from Spain during the 12th Annual Boston Latino International Film Festival, which takes place on the campuses of Harvard University and Northeastern University. The shorts are being shown at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Tsai Auditorium at Harvard University, 1730 Cambridge St. in Cambridge. For more information visit www.bliff.org.

Powers Harmony Chorale is hosting an open session for all interested adults on Sunday, Nov. 10 from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Powers Music School, 396 Concord Ave. The Chorale, under director Kathryn Rosenbach, meets on five Sunday evenings to help develop choral, singing, sight-reading and performance skills in preparation for the Belmont Center “Turn on the Town” tree lighting and the annual "Messiah" Open Sing on Dec. 22. A love of singing and the ability to match pitch are required. Registration and payment is required to participate in the four Sunday sessions following Nov. 10.
