Inspired by Homer Reception Sunday, Benton Book Sale Saturday

Events to do this weekend in Belmont.

Considered one of the greatest American artists, Winslow Homer's connection to Belmont is strong. Though often associated and thought of as a Maine artist, Homer  summered for many years at the William Flagg Homer House on Pleasant Street in Belmont. One of his most recognized paintings, "Boys in a Pasture," was painted in Belmont in 1874.

The Belmont Gallery of Art is holding an artist reception on Sunday, Nov. 17, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., to open its latest exhibit "Inspired by Winslow Homer" featuring contemporary works by 27 local artists who were invited to take inspiration – either literally or figuratively – from the great American artist and his themes; man's struggle against the sea, women and children engaged in daily tasks or at leisure, and the relationship between man and nature.

The Benton Library is holding a Saturday Book Sale on Saturday, Nov. 16 beginning at 2 p.m. The reasonably priced books offered include literature, non-fiction and coffee table books. A large collection of military history books will be for sale. A selection of antiquarian books will also be available. Proceeds benefit the Benton.
