Library Book Sale, Pumpkin Festival, Benton Library Saturday

Events happening over the weekend in Belmont.

• Bibliophiles will be heading over to the Belmont Public Library beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 19, for the annual Friends of Belmont Public Library annual Book Sale. Every sort of book is available, from fiction, non-fiction, paperbacks, art books and loads of kids books. The sale will take place on Saturday until 4 p.m. and on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the library's Flett and Assembly rooms which are located downstairs.

• The annual Pumpkin Fair sponsored by the Belmont-Watertown United Methodist Church takes place Saturday, Oct. 19, beginning at 10 a.m. on the church's front lawn at the corner of Palfrey and Common in Cushing Square. There will be an inflatable bouncing  for kids as well as games, pumpkin decorating, a community yard sale and a bake sale.

• If you never get the chance during the week, now is your opportunity to discover and explore the Benton Library as it opens it's doors on the third Saturday of every month. Belmont's independent and volunteer-run library at the corner of Oakley and Old Middlesex will be open from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19, at which time patrons can use the library's wifi connection, take out New York Times bestsellers or simply experience a quiet place to read on a fall Saturday.

• It's the world's largest event of its kind and just a fun thing to do over a wonderful and sunny fall weekend: it's the 49th annual Head of the Charles rowing regatta taking place no more than a couple of miles from any location in Belmont. Take the MBTA's #73 bus that run along Trapelo and Belmont to the races. Don't forget to cheer on the girls of the Arlington/Belmont crew who  will be racing three boats from just after noon until 2 p.m.
