Yearly Invasion of the Spelling Bee, Help an Art Student: Get Your Car Washed

Events happening in Belmont this weekend.

• Bees are flying in to prepare for the 13th Annual Belmont Youth Spelling Bee, held by the Foundation for Belmont Education on Saturday, Nov. 2. at the Belmont High School Auditorium beginning at 3 p.m. The finals will occur around 8 p.m.-ish.

• The Belmont High School Advance Placement (AP) Art Class is sponsoring a fund-raiser at Belmont Car Wash, 521 Trapelo Rd, Belmont on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 28 students are traveling to Paris France during April school vacation and the money raised will help defray the cost of the trip for all 28 students and will assist those students who might not be able to attend due to family financial hardship.

• The Belmont Public Library is holding a Book Launch Party and Storytime with Belmont young adult/children's author Ammi Paquette on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the library's Assembly Room in celebration of the launch of her new picture books, will lead a storytime with her newest picture books: Ghost in the House and Petey and Pru and the Hullabaloo. Books will be available for sale and signing. The author, literary agent, and mom of two will also talk about the writing process. Halloween might be over, but expect some spooky fun!

• The first-ever home tournament game for Belmont High School Girls' Volleyball will take place Saturday afternoon, Nov. 2 at the Wenner Field House as Belmont takes on Dracut at 4 p.m.
