Belmont High Rugby in State Finals Saturday After Defeating BC High

The club will seek to win their second championship in two years having won the Div. 2 crown in 2011.

In a physical state semi-finals match, Belmont High School Rugby Football Club won a decisive, victory over Boston College High School, 19-7, Tuesday night, May 21 in Danvers. The club, under Head Coach Greg Bruce, will play for the Division 1 state championship vs. number one seed Bishop Hendricken High School Hawks of Warwick, Rhode Island on Saturday, May 25 at Fort Devens State Park. A win Saturday will bring the club – which was formed in 2007 – its second state championship in two years, having won the Division 2 crown in 2011.  The game will be a rematch as Belmont will seek to avenge its only loss of the season, a 13-5 defeat to the Hawks shortly after Belmont returned from their spring recess trip to Spain.  Playing under less …

Lt. Gov. Tim Murray to Resign

CBS Boston reports Murray has a new job lined up already.

UPDATE, 12:15 p.m.: The Massachusetts Republican Party was quick to jump on the reports about Murray's resignation, saying Murray is trying "to outrun the scandal that dogs him" in a statement on their website. Town Treasurer releases names of residents and others whom the town believes are the owners.

Everyone over time will have forgotten their keys, left their glasses at the bank or misplaced a checkbook. Now Floyd Carman, Belmont's Town Treasurer and Tax Collector has released the names of people or companies that have "abandoned" their property with the town between 2009 and 2011. The list can be found going to the town's website . Abandoned Property pertains to any financial asset without customer generated activity for an extended period of time. What it doesn't pertain to is land or real estate of any kind. Hundreds turned out on Saturday, May 18, for a celebration of Joey’s Park as plans to build a replacement park in October are finalized. The party also served as the official kick-off to an on-line fundraising auction at the Web site: www.joeyspark.org. “It was a magical evening,” says Diane Miller, Friends of Joey’s Park co-chair.   “Joey’s Park has been bringing this community together for generations and it did so again last weekend. Families were able to relax and enjoy food, music, friends – and, of course, the playground,” she added. Belmont High School fundraiser will support Make-A-Wish charity.

Belmont High School will be holding "Mr. Belmont" Pageant 2013 tomorrow, Wednesday, May 22, at 7 p.m. in the School's Auditorium.  The entire town is invited to this family-friendly event, where junior and senior young men will compete for the title of "Mr. Belmont." The contestants will be judged on beachwear, talent, formal wear and  answers to questions/interviews. Contestants include juniors Grant Addis, Kevin Chen, Michael El-Hayek and David Green. Seniors are Jonathan Comeau, Vinny DiGiovanni, Alex Griffin, Craig Janjigiian, and Will Staub.
