CBS Boston reports Murray has a new job lined up already.
UPDATE, 12:15 p.m.: The Massachusetts Republican Party was quick to jump on the reports about Murray's resignation, saying Murray is trying "to outrun the scandal that dogs him" in a statement on their website. MassGOP attempted to liken Murray's exit to that of former House Speaker Thomas Finneran, who was convicted of obstruction of justice in 2007. “History doesn’t always repeat itself, but in this case it looks like Tim Murray is following the same path as a previous, disgraced Democratic official,” said Nate Little MassGOP Executive Director in the scathing statement. “Only time will tell if Murray follows the Finneran playbook to the end, complete with indictment and guilty plea.” UPDATE, 10:45 a.m.: Boston.com has updated their …

Town Treasurer releases names of residents and others whom the town believes are the owners.
Everyone over time will have forgotten their keys, left their glasses at the bank or misplaced a checkbook. Now Floyd Carman, Belmont's Town Treasurer and Tax Collector has released the names of people or companies that have "abandoned" their property with the town between 2009 and 2011. The list can be found going to the town's website . Abandoned Property pertains to any financial asset without customer generated activity for an extended period of time. What it doesn't pertain to is land or real estate of any kind. One clear example of abandoned property is an uncashed check. Incident and emergencies handled by the Belmont Fire Department.
Steam heat May 13 – At little after half past 2 p.m., all equipment in the Belmont Fire Department arsenal was sent to the tall condo building in Cushing Square for reports that smoke was emulating from the structure. But it turns out that the white cloud coming from the ground floor vent was actually steam. Going ... nowhere May 14 – Just before 4 p.m., fire crews were sent to the Town Hall complex for an incident in the Homer Building: that would be the structure with all the town offices located on Moore Street. Turns out they were there to help a person (or persons) stuck in the elevator. Happily, everyone got out without incident. The elevator was shut down and handed over to town officials and a technician from Associated Elevator …

Saturday's event marks beginning for stretch run before October's build.
Hundreds turned out on Saturday, May 18, for a celebration of Joey’s Park as plans to build a replacement park in October are finalized. The party also served as the official kick-off to an on-line fundraising auction at the Web site: www.joeyspark.org. “It was a magical evening,” says Diane Miller, Friends of Joey’s Park co-chair. “Joey’s Park has been bringing this community together for generations and it did so again last weekend. Families were able to relax and enjoy food, music, friends – and, of course, the playground,” she added. Red “Join the Fun, Join the Build” balloons dotted the playground and children scribbled chalk messages across the well-worn wooden planks. The 24-year-old park will be replaced in October with a …

One of the top-performing publicly traded companies in the region in Boston Globe survey.
Belmont Savings Bank was named the Boston Globe’s annual rankings of the 100 top-performing publicly traded companies headquartered in Massachusetts in the Sunday Boston Globe, and online. The first time the bank has been on the Globe 100 at number 65, the 25th annual Globe 100 ranking was developed based on how well companies increased sales, profits, and returns for shareholders in 2012. “This is a tremendous accomplishment for Belmont Savings Bank that would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of all our employees. Our strategy of combining the same technology and services of the big banks with the service levels and local neighborhood commitment of a community bank has been validated by this recognition," said…

Heidi If you are looking for an education, just read the Wall Street Journal. You won't find one in the Globe or NYT. You will also notice that whenever a lefty is exposed to someone that they don't agree with, their first reaction is ad hominum insults...apparently they exist with the lofty mind set of the moral superiority that is engendered when the bottom line of their political philosophy is…   more ›
