Politics today other than the main stream media, where do we get accurate information, no longer through the papers, sometimes we can dig through piles of web sites on subjects others would not be allowed to post on main stream news, so the new censorship prevents many from knowing anything other than what the main stream media feeds us. What does the mainstream media feed its listeners, well the…   more ›

Behind Goalie's Best, Girls' Lacrosse Stall Woburn, 8-7

Marauders do enough to beat Tanners at home.

One parent said his daughter was talking so much about the next day's prom "that it's no wonder that this game is so close." And Belmont High School Girls' Lacrosse team needed a stellar solo goal from a senior captain, the best performance of the year from its first year goalie and a game of keep-away for the final five minutes of the game to secure an 8-7 win over Woburn High School, giving the Marauders' it's ninth victory of the year and providing a happy prelude to prom. Belmont went up 6-3 in the first half, in large part from the play of first-year goalie Linda Herlihy, who stopped six Tanner shots as seniors Britta Marden, Caroline McCarthy and Izzy Goldstein each pocketed a pair of goals. Woburn came out for the second 25 minutes …

Sun Speedster: High School Solar Car Makes Debut at Town Day

Sophomore-led team seeking donations to travel to races in Texas and ultimately Down Under.

The team: About 20 Belmont High School students make up the Belmont Solar Car Team. The project: Build a really-fast solar car, like 30-to-40 mph fast. The goal: Race the sun-powered speedster to glory in the US and around the world. But before they can put their project on the track and road, hopefully at least one of the builders will have their driver's license. The public will get its first look at a mock up of the car at Belmont Town Day, Saturday, May 19 in Belmont Center. "That's another big step because we need team members to drive the car and so far none of the students has (a license)," said Leon Dyer, the technology engineering teacher at the Chenery Middle School who is the team's academic adviser. That's because the crew is …

Girls' Tennis Double Threat: Belmont Pair Advance to Sectional Quarterfinal

Doubles pairing of Kim and Barker playing this Saturday in Lexington, a day after Prom.

Decisions, decisions. For Belmont High School seniors Juliet Barker and Choa Kim, this week is about one thing: Senior Prom; getting the right dress, the perfect shoes, the latest hair style and on and on to make this big night on the calendar memorable. But then bright and early Saturday, May 20, the pair will have to decide on serving, poaching and when to attack the net as Barker and Kim will be playing in the quarterfinals of the North Sections in the MIAA Individual Girls Tennis Tournament. Girls' varsity coach Eileen White said the pair, who have a 10-1 record so far this season, has gone farther then any singles or doubles team from Belmont for as long as anyone can remember. Belmont Girls' Lacrosse Push Top Ranked Winchester in Home Loss

Two more Belmont female athletes to continue their careers playing college sports.

It was a perfect day Saturday for a lacrosse game: bright sun, warm temperatures and a light breeze. There were, unfortunately, two dampers to the match between Belmont High School and the number one team in the state, Winchester High School; the game started at 9 a.m. and the Sachems handed Belmont their second defeat of the season, 20-14, at Harris Field. While Belmont (8-2-1) could not match the strategic skills of the Sachems, the Marauders never let the score dictate their own performance, coming back from a 10-4 deficit 14 seconds into the second half to match the top rated team in the state goal-for-goal in the final 24:46 minutes. While Winchester (14-1) was best offensively setting up their chances from set plays, Belmont's speed …

A Musical Remembrance: Chenery Composers' Work Perform Tonight

Five Middle Schoolers' opus – “In Memoriam- for those lost to us" – to be preformed by the MIT Wind Ensemble and Chenery musicians at school's historic Kresge Auditorium.

When a tragic event occurred earlier this year at the Chenery Middle School, the sense of loss was evident throughout the campus. For John McLellan, the school's band instructor, whether the students had yet experienced a death close to them or not, clearly they were effected and words was not always inadequate as an expression of the emotions they were feeling. McLellan then challenged his students to express that loss through music, but not just by performing works on the subject but writing a piece that would convey their thoughts. The result is “In Memoriam- for those lost to us”, a composition for wind orchestra by Chenery eighth graders Kiara Holm, Henry Killough, Chunlok Lo, Hannah Messenger, and Nicolas Neves. And for the second …
