Maruaders' 10-and-under team battles Maine in long-run competition. See the NESN video of the match.
The Boston Bruins might have been on the road, a team from Belmont's Youth Hockey Association was on the ice at the TD Boston Garden in the past weeks to take part in one of New England's oldest youth hockey tournaments. Belmont's Squirt team – Ryan McLaughlin and Micheal Montanaro – took part in TD Bank's Mini 1-on-1 competition against the Maine Gladiators in a battle of Boys 10-and-Under semifinalists. The one-on-one competition, in which a goalie takes on a skater, goes back 40 years to 1973 when WSBK-TV Channel 38 ran the first Mini 1-on-1. According to the NESN report and video on the competition, goals did not come easily, but Maine’s Derek Metivier slipped one past the Belmont netminder to give the Gladiators a 1-0 victory.

Boston Globe honors Belmont's best winter athletes.
If there was an engine that ran the Belmont High School Girls' Basketball, it was a two-cylinder model made up of seniors Katie Leinbach and Olivia Lyons. The pair led the Marauders in scoring and rebounding in each game of the regular and post season, a year which saw Belmont return to the post season for the first time since 2008. While Lyons was Miss Inside scoring and rebounding under the hoop, Leinback directed the team from the guards position; driving the lane or hitting the three. The two brought the Maruaders to the Division 2 North semifinals with Leinback scoring more than 20 points a game while Lyons played despite being injuried. For their achievement on the court, Leinbach and Lyons were named Middlesex League All-Scholatic…
