Letter to the Editor: Olson Focused on Practical Solutions

"With well-grounded, diverse, thoughtful experience and expertise, Olson offers practical uncomplicated solutions that will preserve our wonderful community."

To the editor: I am writing to urge everyone to vote for the Tomi Olson for State Representative on Nov. 6. The only female candidate, Olson selflessly contributes to the betterment of the community and uniquely possess a broad basis of education and experience to utilize while representing us. Olson is a wonderfully practical, open-minded and personable candidate who prioritizes the needs of the community over her own personal agenda. She comprehends the concept that our State Representatives work to serve the people. Olson will equally utilize her time listening and eliciting our feedback, while designing thoughtful practical solutions. We do not need another politician in office that entices confidence in us with statistical reports or …

Gov. Patrick Endorses Rogers in State Rep Race

Governor joins former district representative Brownsberger backing Cambridge attorney.

Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick announced today, Thursday, Nov. 1, his endorsement of Dave Rogers to become the State Representative in the 24th Middlesex district. The "ABC" district is comprised of Belmont and precincts in Arlington and Cambridge. Rogers is the Democrat candidate in the race to replace former State Rep. Will Brownsberger – who endorsed Rogers in October – who left the seat in January to become state senator. Rogers is running against Republican Tomi Olson and Independent Jim Gammill. "I am deeply honored to have our Governor’s endorsement," said Rogers in a press release issued after the announcement. "Patrick is a reformer, successfully championing improvements to transparency and openness in government as well as …

State Rep Hopefuls Claim Independent Mantel at Forum

Final face-to-face meeting between three seeking the "ABC" district has one candidate believes the race is down to two; others disagree.

In the long-running game show "To Tell the Truth," three contestants would identify themselves as the same person with a peculiar experience and it was up to the panel of guest stars to correctly identify the player from the two impostors. In a similar vein, the voters in the 24th Middlesex House of Representatives District are being asked by the three candidates seeking to become their state representative to correctly ID the one who is the true independent in the race. At last night's forum sponsored by the Belmont League of Women Voters held in the Chenery Middle School auditorium, Dave Rogers, Jim Gammill and Tomi Olson each attempted to convince registered voters that once elected, they would not abandon them for outside interests or …

If Tomi were not in this Race it would be a one party race, Since Gammill is a democrat in Independent clothing. Tomi is the Real voice for us, you think Gammill will compromise with Republicans in the state house? Gammill is only trying to cut Tomi out. Because He is afraid of her   more ›

Letter to the Editor: Rogers is Solomon's Choice for State Rep

"(Roger) is committed to controlling health care costs, without which, funding will be endangered for the other initiatives he cares about."

I write to urge my fellow Belmont Citizens to vote for Dave Rogers for State Representative on Nov. 6. At this relatively late stage in the campaign, it is difficult to avoid repeating what others have said, but, if it’s true, it deserves repeating. As has been noted, Dave is strongly committed to enhancing our conversion to newer and more environmentally friendly energy sources. He wants to be sure our educational system is adequately funded so that our children will be prepared to face future challenges which we cannot now predict. He understands that we must have a viable and up-to-date public transportation system to support a thriving economy. And, perhaps most important, he is committed to controlling health care costs, without which…

Letter To The Editor: Rogers For Rep

"Dave brings a strong background of knowledge and experience to many of the issues on which a bright, livable and economically stable future for our town depend."

On Nov. 6, I urge you to support Dave Rogers for State Representative. Belmont has been fortunate to be strongly represented by Anne Paulsen and Will Brownsberger, proud Democrats with independent ideas, who have stood up for their priorities and worked with the House leadership and on their House committees to move them to legislative action. Dave Rogers will be a strong, committed advocate on Beacon Hill following in their tradition. Dave has worked in both government and private industry and law practice. He is an attorney with professional experience in environmental protection, manufacturing, and the biotech and green energy fields. He brings understanding and substance to public service and will think creatively about many challenges…

Letter to the Editor: Resident Chronicles Her Support for Gammill

"He is running for office because of his deeply held belief that he can help Belmont and Massachusetts thrive in coming years."

As a longtime Belmont resident and someone who cares deeply about this town, I was thrilled when I heard that Jim Gammill was running for State Representative. Arlington and Cambridge have multiple State Representatives; Belmont has just one.  This is our chance to elect a man who knows and understands Belmont and wants only the best for our community. I cannot imagine a more qualified man for this job; Jim is smart, ethical, caring, and committed to Belmont. Our family met Jim when our children were in the same pre-school class and we’ve admired him ever since. Jim is one of the smartest people I have ever known; he is politically astute, hard working, with a terrific sense of humor. In these difficult financial times his impressive …

Brownsberger Endorses Rogers for State Rep

State Sen. Will Brownsberger backing fellow Democrat Dave Rogers run for his former 24th Middlesex District seat.

The following is from the Committee to Elect Dave Rogers. State Senator Will Brownsberger (D-S2) endorsed Dave Rogers, candidate for State Representative in the 24th Middlesex District. This district comprises all of Belmont, precincts 2, 4, 8, 10, and 12 in Arlington, and North Cambridge. Sen. Brownsberger served as a state representative from 2007-2012 in this seat before being elected as a state senator. “I am pleased to endorse Dave Rogers for the state representative seat. Dave is a smart, independent thinker whose practical, common sense approach will be valuable for the legislature as well as his district,” Brownsberger stated. “Receiving Will’s endorsement is a great privilege and I am extremely honored by his support,” Rogers said…

State Rep. Candidates' Question: Which House Committees Do You Want Be A Member?

Part of a series of weekly questions to the candidates for the 24th Middlesex District race.

Each week for the remainder of the campaign, Belmont Patch will be providing a "Question of the Week" to the candidates for the House of Representative's 24th Middlesex District – Jim Gammill, Tomi Olson and Dave Rogers – that will run until the week before the election. This week's question is where the candidates would like to focus their service in the House and why. Question If elected, what would be your first two choices for committees assignments in the state House of Representatives and why? Jim Gammil, Independent Every newly elected member looks forward to sitting down with the Speaker to discuss committee assignments, and I will be no different.  Fortunately, I already know Democratic Majority Whip Rep. Byron Rushing, having …

Letter to the Editor: Graham Backing Rogers

"I am convinced that he will be an effective, eloquent representative."

On Nov. 6, voters in the 24th Middlesex District will select a successor to former State Rep., now State Sen. Will Brownsberger. We must ensure that our district continues to have a strong advocate on Beacon Hill to give voice to our communities’ needs. I am proud to support the candidacy of Dave Rogers, who has spent months knocking on doors, meeting thousands of people, and listening to their concerns. Dave understands that not only does every vote count but that every voice should be heard. Dave Rogers has a long record of experience in both the public and private sectors and a deep grasp of a broad range of issues.  He is educated in economics and the law, and he has worked professionally in health care reform, environmental protection…
