Juliet Barker and Choa Kim battled eventual finalist on Saturday.
Less than ten hours after coming home from the Belmont High School Prom, seniors Juliet Barker and Choa Kim were on the tennis court in Lexington Saturday, May 20, to battle against an undefeated team in the quarterfinals of the North Division of the MIAA state tournament. Belmont girls lost a hard fought, heartbreaker, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 to Newton South's undefeated pair of Lauren Bamel and Mei Kasif who advanced to Sunday's North finals where they were finally defeated. Classic car, 'gators and everything in between yesterday on Leonard Street Saturday.
Saturday, May 19, proved to be sunny, warm and perfect for a day on the town as thousands descended onto Leonard Street in Belmont Center for the 22nd annual Belmont Town Day. Chrome and smart paint jobs from more than a dozen classic cars gleemed, the music blarred, food from pulled pork sandwiches to South Asian cuisine was consumed, teens roamed, residents visited dozens of booths manned by community groups, those seeking elected officials and businesses while the kids got the best deal with rides and event especially for them. "Can I hold the alligator?" asked one small boy to the 'gator's handler as the reptile seemed content in the bright sunshine. Sponsored by the Belmont Lions Club, the collection of animals – an owl, rabbits, a …

No one injured in Albert Avenue fire that started in the kitchen.
Belmont Fire Department personnel made quick work of a kitchen fire at 67 Albert Avenue about 10:30 a.m. Sunday morning. The fire, which is believed to have been ignited by grease, caused extensive damage to the one-and-a-half story ranch-style home. The handicapped occupant was able to escape from the house without injury, but the home health aide was treated by Armstrong EMS at the scene for smoke inhalation. She refused transport to the hospital. Stay tuned to Belmont Patch for details as they become available.
