More than 350 residents participate in annual MLK community breakfast.
"This is a day on, not a day off," said Callie Crossley at Belmont's 18th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Community Breakfast held this morning, Monday, Jan. 16, at Belmont High School. The WGBH-radio host and an Academy Award nominated producer for an episode of the documentary, "Eyes on the Prize," Crossley told the 350 breakfast participants that the celebration of King's birthday – "this special time" – must be more than speeches of praise and a once-a-year acknowledgement of the greatness of the man. Belmont’s annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Breakfast takes place Monday, Jan. 16, from 8:45 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Belmont High School Cafeteria. Award winning journalist, Callie Crossley, will be the keynote speaker. Slam poet, songwriter and author Regie Gibson will be the guest artist at the breakfast. Every year, the Belmont community gathers together to honor and celebrate the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. At the breakfast, a featured speaker provides new perspectives on issues of race and social justice, and challenges us to once again make the dream an active part of our lives. Callie Crossley, host of "The Callie Crossley Show" on Boston’s WGBH-FM, 89.7, will be the guest speaker at the 18th annual Belmont Against Racism Martin Luther King Community Breakfast on Monday, Jan. 16, 2012.
