Democratic Town Committee will be electing members to the platform convention this weekend.
At its meeting on Feb. 28, the Belmont Democratic Town Committee voted to unanimously throw their endorsement to US Rep. Edward Markey in the upcoming special US Senate election in both the primary, to be held April 30 and the general election June 25. The Belmont Committee also reviewed procedures for its upcoming caucus to elect members to the Massachusetts Democratic Party’s Platform Convention. The caucus will be held Saturday, March 9, at Town Hall, in the Selectmen’s Room, beginning at 2 p.m. with registration from 1:30 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. The Committee also elected Russ Leino as a new full member and Rachel Sorenson, James Greene, Yvette Tenney as Associate Members.

Headed over to Boston for 6th annual City Mission event at Russell Elementary.
On Saturday, Jan. 19, the Belmont Democratic Town Committee sent volunteers to work with the City Mission Society of Boston, heeding President Obama’s call to provide service to others. Steve Klionsky, Trish Lohmar, Joe Mayer, Thomas Nehrkorn Jennifer Page and State Rep. Dave Rogers spent the morning cleaning and organizing Russell Elementary School in Dorchester as part of the City Mission Society’s 6th Annual MLK Day of Service and Learning. No big surprises which candidates got the backing of the Belmont Democratic Town Committee.
With less than seven weeks remaining until Election Day, the Belmont Democratic Town Committee met last Wednesday, Sept. 19, to recruit volunteers for state and national campaigns, add new members, and discuss ways of broadening the Committee’s appeal to local Democrats. Dems prepare for general election by listening to candidates.
The Belmont Democratic Town Committee will be holding a registration meeting this coming Wednesday, Sept. 19, in the Selectmen's Room at Belmont Town Hall. The monthly meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. for socializing and Registration with the meeting begins at 7 p.m. While the meeting will feature the election of a new full member as well as new associate members, most of our meeting time will be spent talking with the candidates or representatives from the various races who will be there to recruit volunteers/supporters. Think of it as a "Meet Belmont" with just campaign information! The participating campaigns are listed on the website www.BelmontDemocrats.org under "Candidates".

Daniel Vernick is someone local Democrats see as one of their next leaders. Now if he only could vote. The Belmont Democratic Town Committee voted last month to cover the registration fee for the 10th grade high schooler to attend the Young Democrats of America’s High School Leadership Academy in Washington this summer. Daniel, a sophomore at Belmont High School, was one of only 48 high school students from across the country selected to attend the four-day summer camp that will focus on developing the next generation of Democratic Party leaders.
