Police Log: Thief Steals Bike, Returns to Purchase Lock

Another week of incidents reported by Belmont Police: an arrest does not indicate a conviction.

They ran off July 28 – A Pleasant Street resident left a pair of gold doors to a '68 Ford Mustang leaning against his garage last Sunday before going away. When he got back, the doors were not waiting for him. They were valued at $200. Man deposits fist into victim's face July 28 – Just before 5 p.m., a man was attempting to use the drive-in automated teller machine at the Bank of America on Trapelo Road in Waverley Square but found it difficult to do so because a Beamer was parked so close to the driveway. "Hey, don't park so close to the bank," said the man to the BMW owner after squeaking by. But that would not be the final word on this matter. Police Log: Boston Wedding Guest's 'Hangover' Moment in Belmont

Bang goes the cuffs July 19 – A Southie man was arrested for being out of control and breaking furniture at a Merrill Avenue house. A woman called to say there was a fight in the house at the corner of Blanchard Road with a lot of yelling and assorted banging around. Police arrived to find Joshua Epps, 25, of 115 Flaherty Way in South Boston doing most of the yelling and banging. He was arrested for disorderly conduct and destruction of property, the furniture. And the Cat ran away with the fork July 20 – Officers were sent to a construction site at the corner of Oakley and Belmont when workers arriving to work in the morning discovered their large Caterpillar bulldozer on Oakley after it was parked in the construction site the night …

Police Log: Intoxicated 20-Something Wins Fight with Sandwich Board

Strong construction prevents B&E July 13 – While opening his shop for the day at around 7:30 a.m., a Pleasant Street business owner discovered that someone had attempted to use a vehicle to back into the front door to gain entry into this office. Luckily the door frame held although it was damaged. Winner and still undefeated ... July 15 – It was deep in the morning, at a quarter to 4 a.m. when officers were called for a man who had just beat up a sandwich signboard outside a gas station at Trapelo and Hull. Arriving officers found the damaged sign and later a young man at Beech and Wilson who committed the commercial assault. He had a strong smell of alcohol about him so the police said they took the 22-year-old Belmont resident into …

Taken for a ride July 6 – At 4:14 p.m., a Canning Road resident called officers to say someone had taken her key ring with her house keys on them. She has no idea who would have taken it. No bottle return July 8  – Just before 1:30 a.m., police were notified that two groups of young men – two in one and four in the other – were facing off at Beech and Waverley streets with the probability that they would be coming to blows. It came to light that one of the young men – Johald Paul, 19, of 1 Weber Rd. in Belmont – felt that another gentleman who attended the same party in Waltham had been rude so Paul hit him across the face with a bottle before leaving. Police Log: On and Off Road Accident

Road Trip July 2 – In the early hours of Monday, Belmont Police were informed that a client had left the grounds of McLean Hospital a few days ago, had been arrested in Biddeford, Maine after crashing a 2006 Mazda in that downeaster community. It also turned out that the car was taken from a Concord Avenue address without the owner's permission.  More than one July 2 – Just before half past 11 p.m., police were called to Leonard Street nearby the intersection of Pleasant Street for a car that had gone off the road. Turns out the car, a 2011 Toyota was in some bushes near the Verizon building. There they also found Sophia Offner, 18, of 44 Warwick St., who was the driver. Caring for themselves June 1 – A Lexington woman who is the daughter of an elderly Dalton Road resident came to police about a possible credit card fraud being committed by the mother's care giver. It is now under investigation. Still drive safety June 1 – Someone was being quite unneighborly as a Bright Road homeowner called police to say that someone stole his "Go Slow/Children Playing" sign his yard. Buying with other people's money June 2 – Just after 8 p.m. a Payson Road resident called police to say that a person/people unknown to her had compromised her credit card information and over the past year has made a dozen charges on the card for services or equipment from Skype, Apple and USAir for a total of $1,000. 9 Year Old in Serious Condition After Hit By Car

Memorial Day School Street accident may have been the result of possible diabetic reaction by driver as vehicle crossed street and struck the boy mowing lawn.

A car crossed over the center line on School Street and hit a nine-year-old Belmont resident who was mowing a neighbor's lawn on Memorial Day, seriously injuring the boy, according to Belmont Police. Police said the driver, a 61-year-old Watertown man, may have had a "diabetic incident" when the Toyota, traveling northbound, jumped the curb on the opposite side of the road and struck the boy who was using a push mower to cut the grass on the town strip between the road and sidewalk. The accident occurred at 1:13 p.m. on Monday, May 29, between Goden and Oak streets. The impact damaged the vehicle's hood and windshield while tire tracks and a knocked-down street sign indicated a car out-of-control.  When Belmont Police arrived, the boy was …

Police Log: Cologne Crook Expands His Thieving Range

Should have quit May 25 – Around 10:30 p.m., Belmont Police needed to settle a dispute between a cabbie and his passengers near Trapelo and Beech. After calming everyone down, the officer saw that the passengers, a young couple, were a little worse for wear. After sitting them down in the nearby Dunkin' Donuts, the officer was told by the taxi driver that the man became argumentative when the cabbie would not give him a cigarette. Back at DDs, the officer discovered that the man had provided him a false name. And for good reason: there were a pair of outstanding warrants for his arrest from the Waltham court. Suspect: Jean Val Jean May 18 – It sounds like the plot of 'Les Mesribles': when employees arrived to open the doors to Vickie Lee on Trapelo Road, a expected supply of bread was not there. This is not the first time that someone has stolen the $50 package of bread that is delivered before 5 a.m. to the bakery/coffee shop. Remote control fraud May 4 – A little before 2 p.m., a Broad Street resident called the police to say that a caller attempted to have her provide information about her computer account that would have allowed him to have remote access to her personal computer. She hung up on the man.   Not that kind of party May 4 – It was Friday night just after 8 p.m., when a call came into the station from a resident who said it appeared that a good number of teens were partying in a Bay State Road residency.
