Belmont's Vote Could Hit All-Time High

General election could match, top 85 percent voter participation in 2008.

Throughout the final day to register to vote in the Nov. 6 election this Wednesday, Oct. 17, six or seven residents were lined up at the Town Clerk's Office. "Am I registered to vote? Can I vote early? I've learned that I'm a 'non-active' voter; what does that mean?" For Belmont's Town Clerk Ellen Cushman, the interest in the coming General Election is directly related to the increase in activity in her first-floor office in Belmont Town Hall. "It was pretty busy all day with people coming in and those on the phone," said Cushman. "It was a constant flow that had a little bit of desperation." Cushman said the pre-election activity is the same if not a bit busier than in 2008 when 85 percent of Belmont's 14,000 voters would take out ballots…

Today is the final day that residents can register to vote in the state party primary election, according to Belmont Town Clerk Ellen Cushman. 'Raise Your Right Hand': Swearing In in Belmont

After you are appointed or elected, it isn't official until your sworn in and sign the book.

Winning an election in Belmont is just the first part in the democratic process; the results might be in and certified but you can't serve until you head to the Town Clerk's Office to be sworn in. This past Wednesday morning, and day-and-a-half after winning a seat on the School Committee, Pascha Griffiths came to Town Hall with her children so they could watch their mom take the oath. Just as she was being sworn in, Andy Rojas – splendidly attired in a favorite blue tie and a dark shirt – walked into the Clerk's office to be sworn in as a Selectman. Price Armstrong, a newly-appointed member of the recently constituted Community Path Advisory Committee, came in on Tuesday to be registered before heading off on his bike to work in Boston's …

Town Election, 2012

Certified Town Election Shows Little Change

Rojas winning margin wider than announced Monday; Town Meeting caucuses in Pct. 4 and 8.

It took nearly the entire day Tuesday but the 2012 Belmont Town Election has been certified by Belmont Town Clerk Ellen Cushman. See the pdf file on this webpage for the final vote count. And the final, final numbers show that Andy Rojas winning margin in his Board of Selectmen race with Dan Scharfman was by a wider margin than what was announced on Monday night: by three additional votes. After adding overseas votes and those that needed hand counting, Rojas was awarded six additional votes and Scharfman three. The revised, certified totals now show Rojas with 2,171 and Scharfman with 2,136. Their race remains one of the closest in Belmont history. The results also show that some long-time Town Meeting members did not win re-election …

Best of luck to everyone who's running who holds conservative principles. I think you'll see that the public, in general, is steering away from the extreme left, and candidates who clearly represent that shrinking segment (even here in MA). I think the results of this local town election will prove what I stated above.   more ›

A little information on voting today.

It's election day in Belmont as voters will cast ballots in the Massachusetts Presidential Primary. Once it is in your hands, you're stuck with it. Take a look at the sample ballots in the pdf located on this website. Time Polling places open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Questions about or …
