Belmont Fire Log: Quiet Week Around Town

Incidents and emergencies handled by the Belmont Fire Department.

Anyone home? March 18 – A few minutes before 4 p.m., firefighters were outside a Common Street two-family to help assist Belmont Police gain entry into the house to check on the well being of a resident. They didn't need to bother: no one was found inside the home. Shut-off valve March 19 – A bit past half past 10 a.m., Engine 1 and 2 were off up the hill to a Leicester Road single family were the crews shut off the natural gas supply to the house and unplugged the power to a malfunctioning gas cook top.  A racket  March 22 – Literally a second before 10 p.m., Engine 2 was sent to a single family on School Street after a residential fire alarm had sounded. Belmont Police Log: Grinch Breaks into Jewelers Christmas Morning

Incidents handled by the Belmont Police. Just because you're arrested doesn't mean you've been convicted of anything.

Assault by alcohol Dec. 23 – In the pre-dawn hours of a Belmont morning, officers were called at 5 a.m. by a Hull Street resident after he said he was assaulted. But arriving patrolmen discovered very early on in their investigation that the caller was clearly in an intoxicated state and the alleged attack didn't actually occur. The officers did decide to take the resident into protective custody, for his own good. Not that important Dec. 23 –  Just before noon, a Lake Street resident arrived at the police station to file a complaint that someone had fraudulently been using his credit cards. But when an officer arrived to the front foyer to take the report, the man decided to leave. Lock the front door? Why? Christmas Eve – A Wilson Avenue…

Fire Log: Kitchen, Fireplace Is Where the Action Was

Incidents and emergencies handled by the Belmont Fire Department.

Up the pole Nov. 18 – Just before half past 2 p.m., the entire company was sent to Simmons Avenue for a reported fire. When Engine 2 got there, they discovered that a light pole was in flames from apparent electrical contact. The Belmont Municipal Light Department arrived on the scene and confirmed to the firefighters that the power to the pole was disconnected which allowed Engine 2 to extinguish the fire as well as cool down the pole and the surrounding area. The Light Department remained on scene to handle bringing power back to the neighborhood.  Burner burning Nov. 19 – A minute after 1 a.m., Engine 2, Ladder 1 and an engine from Watertown took to the early morning streets to a multifamily building on Ericsson Street for smoke in the …

Fire Log: Down in the Dumpster, a Fire

Incidents and emergencies handled by the Belmont Fire Department.

Stove top fire June 24 – Just about 7:30 a.m., Engine 1, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, and a command car were off to a Pine Street two family to investigate a Lifeline alarm with the sound of smoke detectors going off in the background. A neighbor told arriving firefighters that an elderly resident on the second floor said there had been a "small fire" on the stove top that was only partically extinguished. A firefighter from Engine 1 used an extinguisher to put out what was left of the flames while Rescue 1 assisted the woman. The crews found burnt material on the stove top and in the microwave so the power to both was disconnected. Ladder 1 used a smoke ejector to remove remaining smoke on second and third floors.
