Ben Franklin Bang Up

Elderly driver sends car into store's window and leaves without his license.

The leftside window of the Ben Franklin store in Cushing Square remained boarded up a day after an elderly driver drove his car onto the sidewalk and through the plateglass window. Belmont Police said a call came in at 3:35 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, for a motor vehicle accident at 89 Trapelo Rd. Officers arrived to find a late-model Lexus SUV up on the sidewalk having hit the brick facade and knocking out the window. The officers found the driver, a man in his 80s, outside the vehicle. He told the officers that he was attempting to drive out of a parking space when despite "stepping on the break, the vehicle jumped the curb and hit the store." Despite the popularity of the store which attracts both pedestrians and children, no one was injured…
