Elderly driver sends car into store's window and leaves without his license.
The leftside window of the Ben Franklin store in Cushing Square remained boarded up a day after an elderly driver drove his car onto the sidewalk and through the plateglass window. Belmont Police said a call came in at 3:35 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, for a motor vehicle accident at 89 Trapelo Rd. Officers arrived to find a late-model Lexus SUV up on the sidewalk having hit the brick facade and knocking out the window. The officers found the driver, a man in his 80s, outside the vehicle. He told the officers that he was attempting to drive out of a parking space when despite "stepping on the break, the vehicle jumped the curb and hit the store."
