Belmont High's service club raised nearly $6,000 for Cradles to Crayons.
On March 30, the Belmontian Community Service Club partnered with Belmont Car Wash to raise money for Cradles to Crayons, which provides clothing and gear to poor and homeless children in Massachusetts. The High Schoolers dried cars and were given all of the tips plus $1 for every car that was washed. This charity car wash was a record breaker, bringing in $2,836. During the winter, the club raised money from the community at Shaw’s Market and sponsored days towear pajamas at each of the elementary schools as well as at BHS. With the $2941 were raised in these other activities, the Belmontian Club is giving $5777 to Cradles to Crayons this year.

Belmontian Community Club nears goal of raising $4K for Cradle to Crayons.
For Alice Melnikoff, Belmont High School's community service coordinator, there was only one word to describe Saturday's fundraiser at Belmont Car Wash. "It was crazy," said Melnikoff, who was leading the school's Belmontian Community Service Club at a charity car wash held on Saturday, March 30 to benefit Cradles to Crayons, the Brighton-based non-profit organization which provides gently-used clothes and material for needy Massachusetts children. "We had traffic jams on the lot," said Melnikoff of the activity – more than 100 cars per hour came through the car wash – during the five hours the fundraiser took place where all tips and $1 per vehicle was donated by the car wash to the cause. Belmont Car Wash event will assist Cradles to Crayons which helps kids in need.
This Saturday will be sunny with temperatures in the 50s. After a winter of snow and salt on the road, it's time to wash the car! Casual wear part of the school's annual PJ Drive for Cradles to Crayons fundraiser.
It was strickly sleepwear at Belmont High School on St. Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, as students and staff wandered the halls and attended class in their jammies – at a cost. And the payment they tendered was not their pride – does anyone really need to know that you wear piggy slippers? – but a donation in cash or pairs of new infant-sized pajamas as part of the school's annual PJ Drive for Cradles to Crayons, a non-profit organization in Brighton, which provides gently-used clothes and gear for needy Massachusetts children. School will hold its annual “Pajamarama” on Feb. 14.
Next week on St. Valentine Day, the halls and classrooms at Belmont High School will be filled with students who will come to school wearing their pajamas. No, they aren't love-sick teenagers who forgot to dress for school. Once again, Belmont High School is participating in the PJ Drive for Cradles to Crayons, a non-profit organization in Brighton, which provides gently-used clothes and gear for needy Massachusetts children.
