Incidents responded by the Belmont Fire Department.
Blackened breakfast May 20 – Just before 8 a.m., a long line of fire equipment: Engine 1, Engine 2, Ladder 1, Rescue 1 and a command car responded to a Moraine Street structure for a report of alarms sounding and smoke in the building. On arrival, the crew from Engine 1 investigated and found an unattended breakfast in apartment 13. While there was no fire, it was quite smokey. The unit was mechanically ventilated – they used big ol' fans – and the fire alarm system was reset and held. House fire on Albert May 20 – A little more than two hours after the above call, fire fighters were sent to Albert Avenue for a house fire. Engine 2, Engine 1, Ladder 1, Rescue 1, and three command cars raced to the scene where they discovered heavy smoke …

Incidents and emergencies handled by the Belmont Fire Department.
Scary alarm May 6 – Just before 11 a.m., Engine 2, Rescue 1 and a command car were sent for a possible medical emergency involving natural gas leaking in a house on Dalton Road. The arriving companies quickly performed a check of the basement, first floor and second floor using a pair of the department's gas detection equipment which displayed normal readings on each level. The smoke detectors – which prompted the call – are hard-wired throughout the structure and the residential CO detectors were audibly indicating no carbon monoxide in the building. Separate battery-operated CO detectors were not sounding and indicated a normal environment. The incident was determined to be a carbon monoxide alarm that had gone off for no reason. …

Leaf them there March 12 – A little after 8 p.m., Engine 2 was sent to Leicester Road for a brush fire that ignited in a resident's backyard. Firefighters used 500 gallons of water and a 1 3/4-inch attack line to extinguish the 400 square foot area of burning brush and to wet down the entire yard. It appears the fire occurred in dry leaves that were piled up on top of an outside landscaping light. There had been some tree removal performed earlier in the day and it appears that the leaves were inadvertently left on the light. When the lighting system when on, the leaves went up in smoke. Major League smoker endangers more than himself March 15 – A quarter after four in the afternoon, Engine 1 and a command car were dispatched to Burnham …

Goodnight Moon, Hello Firefighters March 5 – Just after midnight, fire units were dispatched for a possible medical emergency on Trapelo Road. When they arrived, they attempted to raise the female occupant by ringing her bell and knocking on the door without success. Firefighters soon obtained a key and entered the unit where they found the woman in bed asleep. When awoken, the woman matter factly said she was not answering the knocking at her door because she had gone to bed. There was no medical issue and "all was well." Failing the first lesson of cooking March 5 – Just after 5 p.m., Engine 1 and Ladder 1 were sent to two family on Beech Street after a fire alarm was activiated. Thanks so much for the reporting and thank you to our hard-working Fire Department. That last item was real shocker about the unattended propane-fired space heater in an unoccupied unit, still going after 7pm. Wow.   more ›
