Classmates Honor Friend with Donation for New Joey’s Park

BHS Class of ’92 raised $1,000 at 20th reunion.

Contributions came in from across the country from Belmont High School’s Class of ’92 to help build a new playground that will replace one built 24 years ago in honor of classmate Joey O’Donnell. “It was a spontaneous idea several of us came up with,” says Class of ’92 president Andrew Plunkett, a close friend of Joey O’Donnell.  “We knew the Friends of Joey’s Park were raising money for a replacement playground and we figured this would be a great way to help and to honor Joey.” The Class of ‘92’s 20th reunion last November came 26 years after 12-year-old Joey O’Donnell lost a life long battle with cystic fibrosis. Joey's Park, 2.0, Meeting Thursday

Friends regrouping for next phase of renovation of project.

Join the Friends of Joey’s Park on Thursday, Dec. 6 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Winn Brook Elementary School's cafeteria, for a kick-off meeting to begin the next phase of the Joey’s Park project. Participants will review the progress the Friends have a made so far – in the design, community input, publicity and fundraising – and then talk about planning for the future. In September, the group raised more than $50,000 with a charity walk to build the play space that will range from $250,000 to $350,000 and open in October 2013. The group is restructuring the Joey’s Park committee to reflect the needs of the next phase which will include construction planning; sourcing materials and tools; organizing volunteers, food, and childcare; and…

Belmont Kids To Help Design New Joey’s Park

Press release for the Friends of Joey's Park Playground safety inspectors have determined that Joey’s Park is rapidly approaching the end of its life and a volunteer group plans to build a new playground next year with design input from children and a massive community “barn raising.”  The project launches Wednesday, Sept. 20 at the Winn Brook Elementary School with a community-wide Design Day. Students will share their ideas for a playground and then watch as a designer creates a preliminary plan for a new Joey’s Park.
