Belmont Bakers Taking Part in Boston 'Bakes for Breast Cancer'

Glutenus Minimus and Vicki Lee's joins the fundraiser now through Mother's Day, May 12.

You have until the Mother's Day weekend to visit two great Belmont bakeries to both satisfy your sweet tooth and join the fight against cancer.  Glutenus Minimus, at 697 Belmont St., and Vicki Lee's in the heart of Cushing Square at 105 Trapelo Rd. have joined nearly 300 participanting bakeries and stores in more than 90 Massachusetts communities supporting "Boston Bakes for Breast Cancer." Both businesses have created a special dessert and included it on their menu, with proceeds from that dessert benefiting cancer research at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Bakes for Breast Cancer, Inc., a non-profit breast cancer organization. Glutenus Minimus Maximizing: Growing Belmont Bakery On The 'Fast Food' Track

Expansion, brides-to-be leads 'destination' shop to add space, seating.

Natalie McEachern, the owner and baker at Belmont's Glutenus Minimus, has been busy telling her neighbors that she is not opening the equivalent of a wheat-free McDonald's on Belmont Street. "I few of them freaked out until I told them the whole story," said McEachern, who opened her no-gluten bakery in October, 2010. McEachern had to reassure abutters and others when they received notice in the past weeks from the Belmont Zoning Board of Appeals that Glutenus Minimus would be seeking to convert its retail operation into a "fast food establishment."
