A federal jury has found former Massachusetts State Police Trooper John Analetto, a Belmont resident, guilty of extortion of a gambler, according to Boston Globe.  Analetto, 20-year veteran of the State Police, was suspended without pay after his Dec. 31, 2011 arrest on suspicion of extortion and threatening to kill a local bookie. Analetto threatened a gambler who owed their bookie, Robert Russo, money, according to the Globe.  However, the jury was hung on a second extortion charge, according to the Globe. Former State Trooper From Belmont Will Remain Behind Bars Before Trial

John Analetto was seeking to be released before extortion trial.

John Analetto, the Belmont resident who was arrested more than a year ago for extortion and threatening to kill a local bookie, will not be let out of jail before this trial after a judge noted that Analetto's own psychiatrist had "reservations" about him being released out into the public. Analetto, who was suspended without pay as a Massachusetts State Police officer since his Dec. 31, 2011 arrest, was denied his request to be released as Judge George A O’Toole, Jr. ordered him detained until his trial, according to an article in the Boston Herald. O’Toole wrote that Dr. Robert H. Gray, who was hired by Analetto's lawyers, said last year that Analetto should rather “undergo inpatient psychiatric therapy, possibly in a locked facility” if…
