Brams, Coach Crosscup named to list of outstanding athletes, coaches.
Belmont High School's autumn athletic season was capped off with two of their brightest picking up end-of-the-season honors as freshman cross country standout Leah Brams and long-time swimming coach Ev Crosscup were named to the Boston Globe's Fall All-Scholastic teams in the Boston Sunday Globe, Dec. 9. Brams, who set records on her home Clay Pit Pond course every time she raced, was one of three ninth graders named an Girls' Cross Country All-Scholastic. Brams went undefeated in the Middlesex League and won the league title before finishing second in the Division 2 Eastern Mass. championships and seventh in the state championships. Belmont's freshman earns National Elite silver standard honors as 15th overall in state.
Belmont High School's Leah Brams showed a hint of what the ninth-grade runner could accomplish on cross country trails by winning going away in her first high school race back on a warm late summer day in September on her Clay Pit Pond home course. Yesterday, on a sunny and chilly afternoon in the foothills of the Berkshires, Brams proved that she is one of the state elite harriers by running up front with some of Massachusetts' best to finish 7th in the Division 1 Cross Country State Champions. Raced on a hilly and wooded Northfield Mountain course, Brams quickly moved up up from a 15th position to 7th by the first mile of the 3.1 mile (5 kilometer) race and hung onto the position throughout the race. Frosh harrier, team now to show their running prowess in Eastern Mass, states.
Belmont High School harrier Leah Brams ran away from the field as the freshman won the Middlesex League Cross Country Championships Thursday, Nov. 1, the first Belmont female runner to win the meet in 14 years. Brams raced the 2.5 mile course in 14 minutes and 57 seconds, winning by a comfortable 100 meters over the Woburn High pair of senior Molly Persky (15:10) and sophomore Gina D’Addario who were running on their home course at the Woburn Country Club. Brams, who is undefeated this fall, is the first Marauder to win the Girls League title since Marian Bihrle took the top spot in 1998 in a team record of 14:50.
