Belmont High to Delay MCAS Testing

The expected inclement weather has created delays in testing. Rescheduled test on principal's blog.

Belmont High School will be delaying a section of the English Language Arts MCAS test scheduled for tomorrow. "In anticipation of severe weather that may result in numerous school closings and delayed openings tomorrow, Tuesday, March 19 (which is the date scheduled for the MCAS ELA Composition test), the Department has decided to postpone the administration of the MCAS ELA Composition test until Monday, March 25," wrote Belmont High's Principal Dan Richards in his blog. Richard's announcement follows the decision by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to postpond the test.  "We realize that this change may be disruptive for some schools, but for security reasons it is critical that all schools administer the…

Belmont MCAS Scores Continue to Set High Marks

Relatively the same scores from last year; nine of ten students advance or proficient in math, English.

There is good news arriving for Belmont students and the school district's staff: Belmont continues to score near the top of schools and districts in Massachusetts after the release today, Sept. 19 of the 2012 Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) test scores. Statewide, just under 20 percent of students are advanced in English while Belmont has double that amount. In Math, 82 percent are either advanced or proficient compared to the 59 percent of students statewide. 2012/2011 MCAS Comparison All schools Needs Improvement Failing The test…

Belmont's MCAS Scores: High School, District Tops State Rankings

Statewide testing results places Belmont as one of the best open-enrollment districts in state, US.

It's one thing to have national magazines and surveys say that your school district is great. It's another when the students prove it. The recently released 2011 Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment System (MCAS) test results show that Belmont students have among the best exam scores for your average, everyday school system in the state and country. Take, for instance, Belmont High School's 10th graders whose scores in the English Language Arts portion of the annual test ranks them as the top high school in the state last year. The same group of students were ranked seventh in math and eighth in science compared to the nearly 360 high schools in Massachusetts. In the three test categories, Belmont is either the first or second open …

Yet Belmont schools could find themselves facing the prospect of falling test scores if the community chooses not to fully fund coming school budgets, said Darius. What a nonsensical scare-tactic comment. Embarrassing. Darius should know that I want my tax dollars to go to the classroom, not to pensions and health care costs. Apparently Darius is one of the very few remaining souls out there who …   more ›
