Arlington voter turns race away from Belmont attorney to Cambridge lawyer.
Just after 8 p.m., family, supporters and a few stragglers were inside the Belmont Lions Club at the MBTA commuter rail station to join state representative candidate Margaret Hegarty to undergo the agonizing act that all candidate's must suffer through: counting votes. As the campaign team was in a backroom – actually the kitchen – were calculating the votes from poll watchers at 15 precincts in Belmont, Arlington and Cambridge, the handful of early arrivals were treated to boxes of pizza, beers and the king of all election-night food, Chinese. It was all set for a blow-out party that winners hold. Hegarty – who along with Dave Rogers and Bobby Reardon was running to succeed Will Brownsberger on Beacon Hill – was greeting her supporters …

State Rep. Jay Kaufman of the 15th Middlesex district has endorsed candidate Margaret Hegarty in her race to succeed Will Brownsberger in the 24th Middlesex seat. “I would urge everyone in the 24th Middlesex District to vote for Margaret Hegarty for State Representative." said Kaufman, a 17-year veteran on Beacon Hill who represents parts of Lexington, Arlington and Woburn. "Anne Paulsen and Mary Jane
Gibson both served this district before and it’s time to send another great woman
to the Massachusetts House. Margaret has the leadership and political skills to get
the job done, and I can’t wait to have her as my partner,” said Kaufman endorsing Hegarty in the race which culminates tomorrow. Hegarty's campaign notes that Kaufman brings …

"Her unique combination of experience ... would make her an excellent addition to State Legislature"
To the editor: I am happy to support Margaret Hegarty for State Representative. Her unique combination of experience – in the courtroom, in the community and in the State House – would make her an excellent addition to State Legislature and an effective advocate for the people of Belmont, Arlington and Cambridge. She is a fighter and will get things done. David Linsky State Representative (D-Natick), Chairman of the House Post Audit and Oversight Committee

League of Women Voters forum allowed Rogers, Hegarty and Reardon to have their say.
It was around 9:30 p.m. Monday night, Aug. 28, in the Chenery Middle School auditorium when the main event at the Belmont League of Women Voters Candidates' Night Forum which most residents came to see finally got underway. While the sparks flew on the under card – the three Democrats seeking the Governor's Council position let questions of ethics and competence fly about – the most interest was reserved for the three candidates seeking to replace Belmont's current state senator Will Brownsberger as state representative for for the 24th Middlesex District that includes Belmont and precincts in Arlington and Cambridge. Democrats Dave Rogers, Margaret Hegarty and Bobby Reardon stepped away for a summer of retail politics – it is a rare …

"In these economic times, it is crucial that our legislator protect our local aid and advocate for our schools, students, parents and educators."
To the editor: We are writing in support of our friend, Margaret Hegarty, Democratic candidate for State Representative in our district. We hope you'll join us and vote for Margaret on Thursday, Sept. 6. We've had the pleasure of knowing Margaret for over five years. We met when our children started kindergarten together in Belmont. We volunteered together at many school related events and have come to realize our shared interest in helping the underserved. Margaret is a constant presence at the Wellington School and she always has a kind word or a humorous anecdote for all of the children. She brings out the best in all who surround her and will always make sure every voice is heard. We know she will bring her proven gifts in this realm …

"We believe that she is committed to giving equal attention to her Arlington and North Cambridge precincts as well as to Belmont."
To the Editor: As parents of two children currently attending Arlington Public Schools and as a public school educator, we support Margaret Hegarty for State Representative in the September primary. We know that she will work hard to maintain Chapter 70 funding which is so important to our schools. We believe that she is committed to giving equal attention to her Arlington and North Cambridge precincts as well as to Belmont. With her legal background and past work in the State House, we know that she will work hard to accomplish the important goals that she is committed to. As precinct 19 voters, we are ineligible to vote for Margaret. We encourage those in her voting precincts to cast a vote in her support on Sept. 6th. Patricia and …

"None of the three candidates come from Arlington. But, I am convinced that Margaret will listen when we call ... ."
To the editor: The 24th Middlesex District is lucky to have three qualified Democrats running to represent us. After much thought and conversation with the candidates, I have decided to endorse Margaret Hegarty. We need more women legislators on Beacon Hill. In 2011, only 23.5 percent of the House was women. We need to do better. Anne Paulsen of Belmont represented us on the Hill for a long time and we were very well served during her tenure. Margaret is ready to take up her mantle. Margaret comes from a politically active family in Belmont. Her ten year old daughter and her parents often join her on the campaign trail. I am confident that Margaret will work hard for the entire district. She understands how the current local aid formula …
