Belmont Resident Appointed New Middlesex County District Attorney

Michael Pelgro has been serving as acting district attorney in Middlesex County.

  Gov. Deval Patrick announced yesterday afternoon he has appointed Marian T. Ryan, a Belmont resident, as Middlesex County District Attorney (DA), according to a press release issued by Patrick's office.  Ryan, who currently serves as the Middlesex DA's general counsel, will assume the responsibilities for the Middlesex County DA's Office as DA Gerald Leone recently stepped down from his post to join a private law firm.  A 30-year veteran of the Middlesex County DA's office, Ryan has served as general counsel and chief of the office's elder and disabled unit, the press release said. Former COA Worker Who Stole $900K from Elder on Trial Monday

Kathryn Christopher, 65, former Council on Aging home-care employee will be in Woburn Superior Court facing four counts for ripping off dementia victim.

Exactly one year after being arraigned for allegedly stealing $900,000 from an elderly dementia victim from Oliver Road, a former home care corrdinator for the Belmont Council on Aging will have her day in court Monday, Oct. 22, according to Middlesex District Attorney Gerry Leone.   Kathryn Christopher, 65, of Everett, will stand trial in Middlesex County Superior Court in Woburn on charges of larceny of a person over 60 over $250 and three counts of obtaining a signature by false pretense. According to Leone, in 2003, while working as the COA's home-care coordinator, Christopher got to know the victim after she was referred to the COA due to her medical state which left her confused and caused the victim to have a difficult time with her…

[Update] Grove Street Murders a 'Family Dispute'

Shooter was the homeowner who killed three family members and then himself.

Just after noon, small pockets of residents continue to come to Belmont's Grove Street Playground to watch the house across in Cambridge at 161 Grove St.  Two trucks with only the red number 24 and a phone number on its side stand in the driveway. Every now and then, the front door would open and one or two men  – wearing masks, gloves and protective booties – would place material into a cardboard with a hazardous waste symbol on the flaps, later removing the box into the back of the trucks.
