U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH, Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz and other NH Democrats like President Obama's re-election chances.
Shortly after Mitt Romney was declared the winner of the NH Republican Presidential Primary, national and state Democratic leaders expressed great confidence that President Barack Obama could defeat Romney if he goes on to become the Republican nominee. Their collective view is that the Republican candidates would return the country to the policies of the Bush administration which contributed to the recession while President Obama continues to help the middle class. They are confident that once President Obama and his supporters make that case, the President will return to the White House for another four years. What follows is a video with some of their comments.
Former Massachusetts governor declared winner as polls close.
Manchester, NH - Mitt Romney was declared the winner of the New Hampshire Primary within minutes of the close of polls Tuesday night. The win for Romney was no surprise, but the speed with which the race was called was. “Thank you New Hampshire,” Romney said upon taking the stage at Southern New Hampshire University. “Tonight we made history!” He said the state has always been “a special place” for his family, and “the Granite State moment we have just enjoyed is one we will always remember.” Romney then turned his sights to President Barack Obama, calling him “a failed president” who has failed to bring the hope he promised four years ago. "This was a validation race for Governor Romney," said Pat Griffin, a senior fellow at Saint Anselm …
Former Massachusetts governor declared winner as soon as polls closed.
MANCHESTER, NH- Mitt Romney was declared the winner of the New Hampshire Primary by the Associated Press within minutes of the close of polls Tuesday night. The win for Romney was no surprise, but the speed with which the race was called was. From the moment he entered the race, Romney was seen as the frontrunner in New Hampshire, racking up an impressive list of endorsements and supporters after a second place finish here four years ago. But throughout this primary campaign, Romney's critics have repeatedly ripped hiim for not being a "true conservative." But he weathered it well, not to mention challenges from a seemingly endless pool of GOP candidates. First it was Michele Bachmann. Then Rick Perry. Herman Cain was next, before Newt …

Local observers see Belmont's Romney strong again in debate.
CONCORD, NH - There was more action than Saturday night’s debate, but the GOP presidential candidates still failed to do much to damage Mitt Romney’s status as the frontrunner on Sunday. “It was a much more lively debate on the issues that mean something to most voters, unlike last night,” said Dante Scala, a University of New Hampshire political scientist. “But it’s another day that shows Romney’s grown as a candidate. He gives as good as he gets. They threw a bunch of different things at him. Romney’s just very controlled, in charge, he looks at ease up there. That’s been true all year, and it’s served him well. He’s just been steady, and steady’s been good.” “Romney again was strong, on message,” said former Congressional candidate and …

Experts say the battle now appears to be for second place.
MANCHESTER, NH - Mitt Romney escaped mostly unscathed, while the remaining GOP candidates looked like they were battling it out for second place in Saturday night's debate. "This debate proves that the real competition is for second and third place," said Jennifer Horn of Nashua, a former Republican Congressional candidate who recently endorsed Romney. "All the candidates went after each other, not Romney." "Nothing is going to change anyone's opinion tonight," added Mike Dennehy, a veteran Republican strategist. "Mitt Romney's been very strong. Nobody's knocked him off his game. "It almost looked like they were fighting among themselves. This may be what it is all about – they're fighting for second place." Former state Rep. Fran …

While going after Obama, the former governor stuck to a lot of his normal sound bites.
DERRY, NH - If Mitt Romney has proven two things during his last few weeks on the campaign trail, it’s that he is conservative and calculated. No, not conservative on his values, but rather conservative on his strategy. Romney was in and out of Derry like a flash, only stopping at the Pinkerton Academy gymnasium for a “hey, how you doing?” and the usual barrage against President Barack Obama. Like usual he didn’t stray too far from the script, electing to energize the 500-plus people in the Pinkerton Academy gymnasium with a rehearsed stream of patriotic sound bites used in previous appearances. For instance, Romney’s quoting of “America the Beautiful” was almost verbatim to his approach over the past two weeks, right down to his asking if…
