One Book One Belmont: Perrotta On "The Leftovers"

Belmont resident talks about his novel before his talk tonight at the Beech Street Center.

“The Leftovers” is the sixth novel of Belmont resident Tom Perrotta. Named one of the best books of 2011 in a number of end-of-the-year lists including being a New York Times Notable book, a Washington Post Notable Fiction Book and one of NPR's 10 Best Novels of 2011, it is the choice for this year’s One Book One Belmont program. Perrotta will read from and talk about The Leftovers, at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Beech Street Center. Perrotta will be introduced by Belmont author Leah Hager Cohen, whose The Grief of Others was also named a New York Times Notable Book for 2011. Jimmy Tingle To Explain Election in One Book One Belmont Event

You saw him and heard his commentary on "60 Minutes II" and now Belmont World Film presents Jimmy Tingle’s American Dream-Live and On Stage featuring a screening of the documentary "Jimmy Tingle’s American Dream" followed by a Q & A and a live performance of "Jimmy Tingle for President: The Funniest Campaign in History." The festivities will happen on Monday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. at the Studio Cinema, 376 Trapelo Rd. One Book One Belmont Sponsors an Evening for Book Clubs

A discussion on the hows and whys of successful book clubs in Belmont.

Book Clubs of Belmont: Tonight's your night at the library. The Belmont Public Library and One Book One Belmont – which is a community-wide book club – will be hosting an evening for all Belmont residents who are part of the social scene revolving around book or are interested in joining one. "Book Clubbing Belmont: An Evening to Share Ideas." is a free program that will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Assembly Room as part of One Book One Belmont. On the Menu: One Book One Belmont Bites into the 'Burbs

Library's monthly program looks at suburbia through the lens of three novels.

In conjunction with One Book One Belmont 2012, the community read featuring Belmont author Tom Perrotta’s "The Leftovers," there will be a special meeting of Books and Bites, the library’s popular monthly book review program, on Monday, Sept. 24 at 11 a.m. in the Assembly Room of the Belmont Public Library. In this program—“Books and Bites Goes to the ‘Burbs”—three Belmont residents will discuss several authors known for their portrayal of suburban life. One Book One Belmont kicks off today with the first of two events that compliment this year's selection, Belmont resident Tom Perrotta's "The Leftovers." An opening reception will be held today, Friday, Sept. 14, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m for "Anatomy of Melancholy," an exhibit presented by the Belmont Gallery of Art, located on the third floor of the Homer Building in the Town Hall complex. The show presents haunting landscapes and seascapes by artist Lee Strasburger that complement the mood of "The Leftovers." Perrotta's 'The Leftovers' Selected for One Book One Belmont

Belmont resident's novel concerning a Rapture-like event to be feted on Oct. 23.

The Belmont Public Library is pleased to announce that The Leftovers by Belmont author Tom Perrotta has been selected as the featured title for One Book One Belmont 2012, the library’s fourth town-wide reading program.  The library and a dozen co-sponsoring community groups invite town residents to read the novel and participate in book discussions and other activities during the months of September and October. The author is scheduled to speak in Belmont on Tuesday evening, Oct. 23. The Leftovers imagines an event called the “Sudden Departure” in which millions of people around the world suddenly disappear with no apparent reason why some people vanish and others remain.
