"I will always treasure the memories of this campaign."
The votes are in, and the voters are sending Dave Rogers to Beacon Hill. Congratulations, Dave, on a race well run. I would like to thank the tremendous support that so many of you have given to me and to my open, innovative campaign. You have lifted me in so many ways over the course of the last five months. I will always treasure the memories of this campaign. And congratulations to Tomi Olson, Margaret Hegarty, and Bobby Reardon for running fine races as well. I have a new appreciation for what it takes to put one's name on a ballot, and each of these competitors deserves the thanks and respect of the voters of Middlesex's 24th district. "This guy was better in person than his reputation preceded him."
I first met Dave Rogers when he rang our door bell early in his campaign. He had done his homework: he knew our names and he was talking to as many people as he could reach. A few days later we received a card with a handwritten note. Then, I started to hear more positive things about Dave. To me, campaigning door to door was already good enough. The news was that Dave was attending all the important meetings in town, he was talking to voters and listening to their concerns and through hard work and determination he was steadily gaining support. Above all, this was serious work ethic. Just a couple of weeks after he showed up at our front door I went to a coffee and got to know Dave. He grew up in Pennsylvania, one of seven children. His …
"[D]o I want a representative who has lived here for 26 years, raised a family here and whose daughter teaches in the Belmont public schools, or a North Cambridge resident who first walked Belmont’s streets six months ago?"

I am a lifelong centrist Democrat, who served in Bill Clinton’s administration as Assistant Secretary of Defense, a 44-year resident of Belmont, and I am supporting Jim Gammill – the independent – for state representative. Here are the issues that led me to that decision: A voice for Belmont. As my colleagues at the Kennedy School’s Taubman Center for State and Local Government have helped me understand, Belmont is a unique but vulnerable community. It ranks in the top 20 in almost every important measure of the quality of civic life. Its schools are excellent, its streets are safe and its core services (apart from roads) are excellent. But it also has a per capita income far below the communities to which it is compared (Wellesley, Weston…

Jim Gammill, Tomi Olson and Dave Rogers' final appeals to the voters of the "ABC" District.
Jim Gammill, Independent Open Innovative Government I am running as your neighbor. For 26 years I lived in the district, raising a family and enjoying all the benefits that come with calling Belmont and Arlington my home. For about ten thousand days you've seen me on the bus, on the bike paths, at the playgrounds, coaching sports teams, organizing outreach activities, and also just hanging out. I know this district first hand. I bring thirty-five years of professional experience to this race. As someone with a long track record of original ideas, I will make unique contributions to the legislative process. But the most powerful thing I'll bring to this job is your mandate and authority. By electing me over the two party candidates, you …

"Her thoughts on the MBTA, pensions, health care, Belmont Uplands, educational issues and elder affairs are ones I agree with her on."
Though I no longer live in Belmont, I grew up there and we raised our family there. I lived in the town for over 55 years and got to know it quite well. I believe in getting involved in your community and offering support where ever you can. I coached youth sports for over 10 years. I was then fortunate to serve on the Warrant Committee for four years. During this time, I was asked to chair the financial task force. Next I was able to serve as a selectman for six years. Finally was the great opportunity to chair the senior center site committee. The McLean project brought out the best in how a community can work together with strong differences and still bring about a successful compromise. During this time I got to know many great …
"His mix of experience, in both government and industry, provides a strong base for his work going forward."
I write to urge your support for Dave Rogers for the 24th Middlesex District for Massachusetts State Rep. Dave will focus on issues that are vital to Belmont, Arlington, Cambridge, and surrounding communities: public education, sustainable finances, transportation and other infrastructure, and our environment. These affect our families, and for many of us, our jobs. Chances are you have met Dave at your door or at an event around town. He has worked extremely hard getting to know all aspects of our district. He will bring his open, tireless, and effective advocacy for us to the State House. His mix of experience, in both government and industry, provides a strong base for his work going forward. This includes state and federal governments…

"He will approach work on Beacon Hill ... doing what’s best for our district and the state, no matter what party politics are at play."
On Nov. 6, I will be voting for Belmont's Jim Gammill, Independent for State Representative. Although I have pulled the Democratic lever for years, I am confident that Jim is the right choice. Jim has a local perspective, having lived in Belmont for almost thirty years. He raised his family alongside mine and I know he will prioritize the school system and the local aid needed to improve Belmont and the district as a whole. Most of all, Jim is a hard worker. Over the years he has proven his abilities as a faculty member at both Harvard and MIT and as a nonprofit leader. He has been successful because of his approach to challenges: Jim is rational, collaborative and thoughtful. He will approach work on Beacon Hill with this same framework, …
"With well-grounded, diverse, thoughtful experience and expertise, Olson offers practical uncomplicated solutions that will preserve our wonderful community."
To the editor: I am writing to urge everyone to vote for the Tomi Olson for State Representative on Nov. 6. The only female candidate, Olson selflessly contributes to the betterment of the community and uniquely possess a broad basis of education and experience to utilize while representing us. Olson is a wonderfully practical, open-minded and personable candidate who prioritizes the needs of the community over her own personal agenda. She comprehends the concept that our State Representatives work to serve the people. Olson will equally utilize her time listening and eliciting our feedback, while designing thoughtful practical solutions. We do not need another politician in office that entices confidence in us with statistical reports or …
Governor joins former district representative Brownsberger backing Cambridge attorney.
Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick announced today, Thursday, Nov. 1, his endorsement of Dave Rogers to become the State Representative in the 24th Middlesex district. The "ABC" district is comprised of Belmont and precincts in Arlington and Cambridge. Rogers is the Democrat candidate in the race to replace former State Rep. Will Brownsberger – who endorsed Rogers in October – who left the seat in January to become state senator. Rogers is running against Republican Tomi Olson and Independent Jim Gammill. "I am deeply honored to have our Governor’s endorsement," said Rogers in a press release issued after the announcement. "Patrick is a reformer, successfully championing improvements to transparency and openness in government as well as …

Final face-to-face meeting between three seeking the "ABC" district has one candidate believes the race is down to two; others disagree.
In the long-running game show "To Tell the Truth," three contestants would identify themselves as the same person with a peculiar experience and it was up to the panel of guest stars to correctly identify the player from the two impostors. In a similar vein, the voters in the 24th Middlesex House of Representatives District are being asked by the three candidates seeking to become their state representative to correctly ID the one who is the true independent in the race. At last night's forum sponsored by the Belmont League of Women Voters held in the Chenery Middle School auditorium, Dave Rogers, Jim Gammill and Tomi Olson each attempted to convince registered voters that once elected, they would not abandon them for outside interests or …
