This Subway Stops in Belmont Center Today

Christopher Cho's third restaurant is Belmont's first fast food store.

It's been nine months since he came before the Belmont Zoning Board of Appeals, months of outfitting the site of the former TCBY space, and weeks of training a new staff and last minute permits and inspections. Finally, today at 8 a.m., Christopher Cho will open the doors to Subway Restaurant's 37,187th store worldwide but Belmont's first ever fast food restaurant. This is Cho's third Subway franchise that he owns in the area – the others are in Somerville and Sturbridge – which is a departure from his previous work as a consultant for a merger-and-acquisition firm for this Dartmouth and Ross Business School (University of Michigan) grad. The native of the Buffalo, NY region was looking for businesses for his clients to buy as investments …

Right. However Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts are both international brands that have expanded food menus well beyond core offerings of coffee, muffins, and doughnuts. http://www.starbucks.com/menu/catalog/product?food=sandwiches-panini-and-wraps#view_control=product   more ›

Center's Subway Opening 'First Week in June'

Co-owner says challenge periods over allows a two month build out to begin.

Early this week, Chris Cho was leaning against what remains of the counter where once frozen yogurt was served at the former TCBY store at 59A Leonard St. Since late last year when the long-time Belmont store closed, the store's front windows have been glazed over as the location's future was debated. That inactivity will soon end as Waltham resident Cho and his co-owner, fellow Dartmouth grad Enrique Colbert, will begin directing the transformation of the store into Belmont Center's first "fast food" outlet with the introduction of a Subway's on Leonard Street. Cho, who owns with Colbert five other Subway franchises in the area, was going over blueprints after the town's review of their January application got Belmont's stamp of approval …

That is from the co-owners application to the town. They reiterated that point at the Zoning Board as salaries, rent, taxes etc .   more ›

[Update] Subway Set To Open in Center

Unanimous Zoning Board vote will see fast-food eatery in Belmont in about three months.

Welcome to Belmont, Jared. Subway restaurant, the largest franchiser in the US with more than 35,000 locations worldwide, is coming to the former TCBY space at 59A Leonard St. Late Monday night, the Zoning Board of Appeals voted unanimously to approve the application of Christopher Cho of Waltham and Enrique Colbert of Jamaica Plain to operate what the Connecticut-based restaurant chain claims is a healthy alternative to other fast food operations.  The Homer Building Art Gallery where the ZBA held its meeting was filled with more people – about two dozen – than usually attend a typical appeal, many of whom were there to express either support or opposition to the Subway moving into the center. Cho and Colbert will be managers of the …

Yeah Ned I can't imagine any change to current parking conditions. A few years back there were always close spaces. The lack of easy and close spaces is because Belmont Center has greatly improved in what it has to offer. A hassle? Yes. But overall, good. I find Cushing Square the same way, and if that new development proceeds, the town will be gaining a lot of revenue and people in the area will…   more ›

Subway Stop Coming to Belmont Center

Franchisees will be before Board of Appeal Dec. 5 on bringing first "fast food" eatery to Belmont.

When Christopher Cho and Enrique Colbert come before the Belmont Zoning Board of Appeals on Monday, Dec. 5 for a special permit to open a Subway restaurant at 59 Leonard St., the board will be looking at whether their restaurant complies with the town’s zoning bylaws for Belmont Center. According to Planning and Economic Development Manager Jay Szklut, topics such as whether a so-called “fast food” establishment – the industry likes to be referred as limited-service format restaurants – is appropriate for the business district or will blend in with high-end gift stores and clothing boutiques are not going to be part of the discussion. Rather, Szklut said, the ZBA will review compliance with zoning regulations. “We would have to show the …

Yes, in this case I am a snob. Google "Subway Tuscany" and look at the signage, the lighting, the interiors. This is not a good idea for an upscale Belmont Center. It's an image killer that will only reflect poorly on the town. Sure, there's a place for a Subway - but in my opinion, not in the Center district.   more ›
