Belmont resident talks about his novel before his talk tonight at the Beech Street Center.
“The Leftovers” is the sixth novel of Belmont resident Tom Perrotta. Named one of the best books of 2011 in a number of end-of-the-year lists including being a New York Times Notable book, a Washington Post Notable Fiction Book and one of NPR's 10 Best Novels of 2011, it is the choice for this year’s One Book One Belmont program. Perrotta will read from and talk about The Leftovers, at 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Beech Street Center. Perrotta will be introduced by Belmont author Leah Hager Cohen, whose The Grief of Others was also named a New York Times Notable Book for 2011. Art, music that complements this year's selection, Belmont's Tom Perrotta's "The Leftovers."
One Book One Belmont kicks off today with the first of two events that compliment this year's selection, Belmont resident Tom Perrotta's "The Leftovers." An opening reception will be held today, Friday, Sept. 14, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m for "Anatomy of Melancholy," an exhibit presented by the Belmont Gallery of Art, located on the third floor of the Homer Building in the Town Hall complex. The show presents haunting landscapes and seascapes by artist Lee Strasburger that complement the mood of "The Leftovers." Belmont resident's novel concerning a Rapture-like event to be feted on Oct. 23.
The Belmont Public Library is pleased to announce that The Leftovers by Belmont author Tom Perrotta has been selected as the featured title for One Book One Belmont 2012, the library’s fourth town-wide reading program. The library and a dozen co-sponsoring community groups invite town residents to read the novel and participate in book discussions and other activities during the months of September and October. The author is scheduled to speak in Belmont on Tuesday evening, Oct. 23.
