Scattered Strong Thunderstorms Expected After 2PM

National Weather Service warns of possible strong winds, hail, localized flooding until 8 p.m.

The National Weather Service in Taunton has issued a hazardous weather outlook that forecasts strong to possibly severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening in Middlesex county including Belmont. An approaching cold front will result in the development of scattered showers and thunderstorms beginning after 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., according to the NWS, with some of the storms accompanied by damaging straight-line wind gusts and large hail. Some thunderstorms will contain heavy rainfall which may result in localized urban and poor drainage street flooding. Weather: Thunderstorms Today; Hot, Humid This Week

National Weather Service calling for severe thunderstorms Monday afternoon and evening; later this week, the heat, humidity rising to hazardous levels.

Scattered but severe thunderstorms are expected to pass through Belmont and the surrounding area this afternoon and evening, the National Weather Service (NWS) warned on Monday. In a hazardous weather outlook statement, the NWS said the primary threat from any severe thunderstorm will be "strong to damaging straight line wind gusts." There's also a concern about isolated reports of large hail. An updated report issued at 1:38 p.m. this afternoon stated the thunderstorms may "not be as widespread" as initially thought, there is still a chance of strong, isolated storms.  "Torrential rainfall is likely with any strong to severe thunderstorm," the NWS statement said. Severe Thunderstorm Watch For Belmont, E. Mass.

Boomers are expected to roll through Middlesex County between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued by the National Weather Service office in Taunton that lasts through 10 p.m. Thursday. The thunderstorms will likely hit Eastern Massachusetts – and that includes Belmont – between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., according to the National Weather Service statement. Lightning is expected and strong winds and large hail could be produced by the storm, and very heavy rainfall could cause local street flooding, forecasters said.

Soaring Temps, Humidity With Severe Thunderstorms Likely

National Weather Service issued a hazardous weather outlook from the morning into the nighttime.

Southeast Middlesex County – including Belmont and surrounding towns – and most of eastern Massachusetts could see strong isolated thunderstorms this afternoon and overnight as temperatures and humidity levels skyrocket, the National Weather Service (NWS) warned this morning. The NWS issued a hazardous weather outlook for the region on Wednesday morning regarding thunderstorms. Possible Thunderstorms Trigger Severe Weather Outlook

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook, with a small chance of straight-line winds, for today and tonight for eastern Massachusetts.

Keep your eyes on the skies for thunderstorms today. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a hazardous weather outlook for today that extends into tonight in anticipation of possibly thunderstorms in much of eastern Massachusetts, including Belmont. And while the risk is considered low, the NWS said a few storms could become severe and produce destructive straight-line winds, the same weather event that struck Belmont nearly a year ago on June 6, 2010 during Belmont High School's graduation ceremony resulting in more than 100 mature trees uprooted and damaging a number of homes and cars.
