Younger Misses Out Being Winchester's Town Manager

Belmont's Town Administrator also not selected for North Andover's top town post.

The Winchester Board of Selectmen Thursday night, Oct. 27, selected Richard Howard, Malden's current mayor, as the town's next Town Manager, skipping over fellow finalist Belmont's Town Administrator Tom Younger. This was the second time this month that Younger was in the last group to become a Town Manager but failed to garner the votes. Two weeks ago, Younger lost out to Andrew Maylor, the Swampscott Town Administrator, for the position in North Andover. The other finalists for the Winchester post was Andrew Bisignani, Saugus Town Manager. Maylor was also in consideration for the Winchester position before being hired in North Andover. Good News From the Quarter Post on Town Finances

Ninety days in, Warrant Committee's review shows town, schools hitting their targets.

A sailing imagery would best describe the direction of the Belmont town budget: Steady as she goes. In their first presentation of the 2012 fiscal year budget to the Warrant Committee Oct. 12 at the Chenery Middle School, after the first three months, town and school budgets are coming on target without any wild swings in expenses, according to Tom Younger, the town's administrator. After the first quarter, the Belmont School Department has spent $8.2 million – or just under 20 percent – of the $41.6 million it was budgeted in 2012. Over on the town government side, including fire and police budgets, $5.7 million of the $22.4 million has been spent. Zipcar Brings Two to Town; Tennis Courts Done

Also a request to build a monument to name every Belmont resident who served the country.

Zipcar is just about ready to bring at least two of its rental cars to Belmont Center, Town Administrator Tom Younger told Belmont Patch Friday. The Cambridge-based car sharing company that lends automobiles for short round trips, has its eyes on two municipal-owned parking spots they will rent from the town, allowing residents with a Zipcar membership and town employees to use its service, said Younger. An agreement will come "in the very near future," he said. Belmont Center will be the test site and if activity is strong, there is an opportunity other parking spaces will be added in the Center and at locations in Belmont's other commercial centers such as Cushing and Waverley squares. Each week, Belmont Patch offers a series discussing the latest news concerning town government with Town Administrator Tom Younger and Assistant Town Administrator Kellie Hebert. Belmont Town Administrator Tom Younger said it’s been a fairly quiet week in his office but was able to list a number of tasks he performed in the last few days. This week, Belmont Patch starts a new weekly series discussing the latest news concerning town government with Town Administrator Tom Younger and Assistant Town Administrator Kellie Hebert.
