Have your barrels and containers ready on the same ol' pick-up days.
Just because there's a four-foot snow drift in front of your house doesn't mean you can't put your trash barrels out to be picked up. Belmont's Department of Public Works want to remind residents that despite 27 inches of snow from Friday and Saturday's blizzard, curbside trash collection is operating on its regular schedule. Any questions related to this can be directed to the DPW at 617-993-2680.

Don't let the holiday fool you.
With all the wrapping and paper, the remnants of the holiday meals, paper plates and recyclable plastics, Christmas has become one of the biggest trash and recycling days of the year. But be forewarned: Because of the holiday, today, Wednesday, is seen as Tuesday in the world of trash collection. While you may be a day early putting out on the street your garbage, it will be standing outside when the next weather event –which will include gusty winds – comes through the area

Worried residents will have their Monday collection tomorrow as scheduled.
It's one of the most foreboding sounds for any suburban household: the rumbling of the garbage removal trucks coming down the street and you didn't put your weekly collection of trash and recyclables on the curbside. And many Belmont residents were awoken on this day after Christmas not by shiegh bells but of the noise of trash collection trucks on their assigned rounds. A day early, it turned out. As one Belmont Patch reader noted in horror: "How come a garbage truck is stopping on my street? Did I miss the most important garbage day of the year? Help!" And if there is a trash pickup most residents and commercial owner need to make is the day after Christmas with boxes, paper, broken wine glasses and what's left of the turkey carcass …

Where you shoveled for the walkway, driveway, or path for the mailman and others. Or, if you choose, don't put them out this time. Good luck. At least we don't have those huge barrels like Watertown does.   more ›
