Belmont Unemployment Rate Remains Steady in April

While state joblessness spiked since October, Belmont's unemployment has dipped.

After hitting a 12-month high in October, the number of unemployed Belmont residents has decreased in the past seven months to where the rate is approximately half the national level. According to the state's Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, more than 100 residents found employment since October 2012 as the number of the unemployed in Belmont fell to 512 residents in April, a 3.8 percent non-seasonally adjusted rate.  The town's unemployment rate dipped from 4.6 percent last October when 629 residents were without work. The 3.8 percent rate is below the 6.8 percent jobless rate for the state in April and the US's 7.8 percent. Over the same time period, the state's unemployment rate has spiked from 6.1 to 6.8 percent. …

Employed for the Holidays: Belmont's Unemployment Drops

Falls from its highest percentage in the past 12 months.

After hitting a 12-month high in October, the number of unemployed Belmont residents has decreased in November to where the rate is approximately half the national level. According to the state's Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, 63 residents found employment in November as the number of the unemployed in Belmont fell to 566 residents, a 4.2 percent non-seasonally adjusted rate.  The unemployment rate dipped from 4.6 percent in October when 629 residents were without work. The 4.2 percent is below the 6.1 percent for the state in October and the US's 7.7 percent. The current unemployment rate is nearly 50 percent lower then the high water mark for unemployment in Belmont for the past 10 years when, in June 2009, 851 …

Belmont's Unemployment Rate Creeps Higher

Remains below state, national levels.

The number of Belmont residents who are unemployed rose for the first time in several months, staying at approximately half the national level for a better part of two years. According to the state's Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, 599 Belmont residents were unemployed at the end of September, a 4.4 percent rate. The unemployment rate rose from 4.3 percent in July, indicating that a net of 20 residents lost their jobs in the month. The 4.4 percent is below the 6.6 percent for the state and the US's 7.8 percent. In the past year, a net of 110 residents found work when the unemployment rate hovered at 5.2 percent and 689 people were looking for work.

Belmont's Jobless Rate Drops, Half National Level

Falls to 4.3 percent in August.

The number of Belmont residents who are unemployed fell for the second consecutive month, staying at approximately half the national level for a better part of two years. According to the state's Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, 579 Belmont residents were unemployed at the end of August, a 4.3 percent rate. The unemployment rate fell from 4.4 percent in July, indicating that a net of 15 residents found work in the month. The jump in employment resulted in the number of Belmont residents with jobs increasing to more than 13,000 at 13,032. The 4.3 percent is below the 6.4 percent for the state and the US's 8.1 percent. Belmont's Jobless Rate Jumps ... A Little

Town part of larger state trend where unemployment rose but still less than national rate.

A 14 percent rise in the town's unemployment rate in the past month shows that the stagnant national economy has impacted Belmont. But the "Town of Homes" continues to do better on the jobs front than just about anywhere outside of South Dakota. The state's Massachusetts Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development reported that 75 Belmont residents joined the unemployment rolls between May and June. Currently, 607 are officially looking for work. But the town's seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate of 4.4 percent is well below the state's 6.3 percent in June and nearly half that of the US which stands at 8.2 percent.  Compared to a year ago, Belmont has shown strong job retention among its citizens. Belmont's Unemployment Drops Full Point in '11

Data from Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development shows slight decline in Dec.

Belmont saw a full percentage point drop in its unemployment rate in the past year while it showed a slight drop in the rate in December, according to numbers released this week. The state Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development released its local unemployment numbers and Belmont’s unemployment fell slightly, from 4.3 percent in November to 4.1 percent in December.
