This Weekend in Belmont: Wellington Carnival at the High School Saturday

Benton book sale, St. Patrick's at Paprika Kids and seeds, seeds and seeds Sunday.

Wellington Carnival this Saturday One of the biggest family events of the school year is back this year as the annual Wellington Carnival returns Saturday, March 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to the Wenner Field House at Belmont High School for hours of fun for children and their caregivers.    Join the Wellington Elementary School community as everyone enjoys traditional carnival games including Krazy Kans, ring toss, putt and win, Castle bounce, and slide, as well as sand art, balloon animals, hula hoping, face painting, arts and crafts, bake sale, gently-used book sale and more. Food will be available for sale.  Many in the community find the event is a great opportunity to meet other families in town, and have their children be part of a …

Saturday Book Sale at the Benton

The library will be open from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

It's the middle of the month and that means the Benton Library at the corner of Oakley and Old Middlesex roads will be holding it's Saturday Book Sale on Feb. 16, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.   The sale will feature a wide variety of reasonably-priced books including adult fiction, literature and non-fiction, a small selection of antiquarian books and vintage children’s books.  The sale's proceeds will benefit the Benton, Belmont's independent and volunteer-run library. The Library's hours are Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., The library is open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on the first Friday of the month and on one Saturday a month for its book sale.

Everett C. Benton Library Opens its Doors

Victor Kruglov is extremely excited the Everett C. Benton Library has opened its doors to the public. The fourth grader at the Wellington Elementary School lives two houses away from the historic stone building and loves his job as a volunteer “putting books back on the shelves.” It’s important work, Victor said, to keep the library organized and tidy that he will perform on Saturdays and Sundays. Hundreds of residents in the Oakley Street neighborhood and other parts of town joined Victor on Sunday, May 22 for the library’s Opening Day event that included light refreshments, a “Benton the Owl” drawing contest, an exhibition of books from the public library movement 1854-1950, library card sign ups and remarks by various speakers. “What a …

Benton Library Reopens Its Doors Sunday

Opening culminates rescue of historic building into an all-volunteer run community library.

Elizabeth Gibson, president of The Friends of the Benton Library, wants all Belmont residents to know one thing about Sunday's event at the historic building. “We want everyone to feel welcome,” she said. After years of work by the Friends, a neighborhood group and the Benton Library Reuse Committee, the grand reopening is finally taking place on Sunday, May 22 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the building on the corner of Oakley Road and Old Middlesex Street. The celebration will feature speakers at 3 p.m., light refreshments and the opportunity to sign up for library cards. “So much has been accomplished by this group, much of it just in the past three weeks,” said Friends Secretary Virginia Jordan.  “The building was cleaned.
