Belmont Fire Log: Smoldering Car Fire on Fairview

Incidents and emergencies handled by the Belmont Fire Department.

Up in steam Jan. 6 – Just before 4 p.m., fire crews were sent to the First Baptist Church of Belmont on Lexington Street for smoke in the building. Turns out that steam from a leaking heating pipe set off a nearby smoke detector. Continued trouble on Louise Jan. 8 – Half past midnight, fire crews were sent to Louise Road for the third time in a week for a gas leak. Firefighters found that the National Grid, the gas supplier for Belmont, was working in the area. They also found an intermittent natural gas odor where the gas company was marking the street to locate the supply lines at the intersection of Louise and Emerson Street. Belmont Fire Log: Gas Leaks, a Fully-Involved Cab and Self-Erupting Ovens

Incidents and emergencies handled by the Belmont Fire Department.

Persistent gas problem Dec. 24 – At around 20 past 4 p.m., Engine 1 was sent to the corner of Elm Street and Foster Road for a reported outside odor of gas. On arrival, the crew could smell a slight intermittent odor in the neighborhood. The homes that the firefighters could get into found no gas. A resident said the gas smell is an ongoing issue and National Grid, the town's gas provider, had investigated the problem in the past. Belmont Fire Log: Watched Pots Don't Start Fires

Emergencies and calls responded by the Belmont Fire Department.

Damp it! Dec. 16 – Just before 3:30 p.m., Engine 2 was sent to a Chilton Street residency that was filling with smoke. Turns out that you shouldn't start a fire in the fireplace until you first open the damper.  No news is good news Dec. 16 – Just after 9 p.m., Engine 1 and Ladder 1 were dispatched to the Belmont Media Center on Lexington Street after the dispatch center received an electronic alarm from the center. Turns out it was a false alarm as it was determined that the system malfunctioned.  Steam heat Dec. 17 – Right at 9:30 a.m., all Belmont companies raced to the intersection of Davis and Trapelo after a passerby called 9-1-1 saying they saw a sudden cloud of "smoke" coming from a local business.
