Van Gogh Play & Winslow Homer Exhibit

“Art Double Header” at Belmont’s Homer House June 29 at 2:00 p.m.

Van Gogh Play Teams with Winslow Homer Exhibit

Summer isn’t just about baseball!  Fans of artists Vincent van Gogh and Winslow Homer will have the opportunity to experience an "art double header” Sunday, June 29, at Belmont’s historic Homer House, starting at 2 p.m.
First up will be an encore, one-hour performance of “Vincent – A Portrait by the Postman Roulin,” starring  Screen Actors Guild actor Ted Zalewski.  Zalewski will portray the Postman Joseph Roulin, van Gogh’s real-life friend and frequent portrait model in Arles, France. Written by Zalewski and based on van Gogh’s life and letters, the play relates the story of van Gogh’s personal and artistic journey from his native Holland to the south of France.  “Vincent” played to a capacity house in April.

Following the play, audience members will be invited to view the new Homer House art exhibit, “Winslow Homer’s Civil War,” which opens that weekend. The exhibit will feature original engraved illustrations of home front and battlefield scenes done by Homer for Harper’s Weekly from 1861-65.  Visitors will be able to “step into the picture” of one 1861 illustration that was set in the Homer House parlor. Admission of $20 also includes a post-performance reception with the actor.  The 1853 Homer House, maintained by the Belmont Woman’s Club, is associated with the early life and career of iconic American artist Winslow Homer.
